I agree it's ridiculous based on performance, but I feel like maybe they're letting Carp have one last hurrah in front of the Cardinals crowd. Writing is on the wall that, despite his option for next year, this could be his last month or so in a big league uniform.

Had to be on his own … and unclear of the concept that with no outs in the 1st and R.Hill on the mound for the Padres playing small ball for one run is not the strategy. Big money guy needs to deliver IMPACT.

I get it but two schools of thought…
1 - very unselfish move by Soto to get a guy in scoring position and it worked
2 - Maybe he doesn’t feel it at the plate and did not want to hit into a DP
I would like to see that in extra innings to be honest but it worked and for a team that has struggled…the get them on, get them over, get them in is old school and still works today.

Dont have a problem with the actual play, just paying someone $24M a year to do it.
For $24M, a little more bang for the buck please.

10 games under, now, and it feels like it just is getting worse. Backs against the wall, and this is how the team responds? Losing 5 of 6 and 7 of 10?
EVERY other team at least 10 games under .500 have run differentials close to or beyond -100 (except for the Mets at -41). Every other losing team in baseball has a negative run differential. The Padres have a better run differential than the Giants, the Hacks, the Brewers, the Reds, the Marlins, the Twins, the Red Sox, and close to the Jays, all of which are at .500 or better.
This team's performance in 1 run games (6-22) and extra innings (0-11) will ensure it goes down as quite possibly the least clutch / unluckiest team in the history of baseball.
F*ck this.

The run differential…along with the way the defense and the rotation have played pretty much proves how unlucky this team has been.
Yes,guys like Manny and Crone and even Tatis have not produced as we expected or as they should…but the amount of bad luck it takes to lose every xtra inning game and almost every 1 run game is just mind boggling.
No way this can happen again next season.
Have to hold out hope it will be the opposite actually.

Luck may come into losing a game … maybe even a losing streak but when the Padres have been consistently poor for 5 months of a season … can’t come from behind … go 0-11 in extra innings … have one of the worst records in one run games … the cause is much more serious than just luck. No idea the cause … but it sits with the players and just bad performance.
The old saying is the good teams make their good luck and bad teams make their bad luck.

Gotta agree with Warrior and Fenn here, not about luck at all.
Players that have been historically good have just been historically( for them) bad.
More to do with the makeup of the roster/ lineup than anything else. Poorly put together, poor results.
Expect more of the same if no changes made( read: fire Preller)
