Oh, and props to AJ is this comes off. No way did I think we'd get this kind of haul.

Saves money to go after OF bats( Lee and ???)

We could really use Sanchez's bat so would definitely want he and Profar in the rotation of DH/1B

It is the money … if Sanchez is holding out for $8MM would the Padres be better off adding another $5MM and signing Gurriel for LF? Brantley for similar money for DH as a LHH?

I'll be honest, should they trade Crone I will be a little bummed. I like his grit and the way he plays ball. Its not really his fault that they offered him that contract, and then played him in a position that his bat does not really fit.

If he stayed at 2B no one would have issues with him.

Like to keep him myself.

IF we aren't going to extend Kim I'd rather trade Kim and leave Crone at 2B..not that I want to lose Kim but....

The big thing with Kim is he is a fan favorite. Plays the game the right way, leaves it all on the field, and is just a gritty player. Not to mention really fantastic with the glove especially at SS. Couple that with another improved season at the plate, you can understand why the fans love him.

Once again, the bizarre signing of Bogaerts is biting SD in the ass.

If we spend the Soto savings on Lee and extend Kim we’re set for awhile.

So it’s not just the Yankee package…the $ saved gets you Lee plus another SP and/or a Kim extension.

Lee and Kim together for 4-5 years would be cool.

Would really be funny if AJ blew everyone’s mind and found a taker for Crone and used all the savings and signed Ohtani.
lol

Could you imagine all the naysayers around the country if that happened.

Plus would keep him from LA no SF.

Obviously I’m not saying it’s close to likely…would just be an awesome F You to all the “the Padres are broke” people.

If we trade Soto Jung Hoo Lee is a Padre.

Any of you dudes ever been to Seoul? If not, I'd definitely add it to your bucket list. Really cool city. And I imagine a baseball game would be a brilliant night out as well.

King and Higashioka are expected to get a total of 5M in arbitration, which is what Grisham alone would have gotten.  Preller now has over 30M to spend on our pitching needs plus money toward the offense/bench - Lee's signing with SD may come quickly.  Higgy may not even make the team if Sanchez decides he can live with a lower salary - salary for him in the 2.5M or below range; Sanchez was not that bad defensively last year, but Higgy is much better although offensively challenged.

Of the pitchers acquired and who will be on the 40 man roster, King fits the #3 spot in the rotation with the others in that rotation TBD by what magic Preller can weave to supplement what we have.  Vasquez may be able to take the swingman role that Martinez had - I'd say his talent level is much like a Bergert or what a healthy and mature Lizarraga might look like in a year or two.  Brito likely won't make the 26 man, but has 2 options remaining, as does Vasquez; I'd put him in competition for the last spot in the bullpen.  Thorpe has the biggest upside of any of the young pitchers acquired and should start out 2024 at AA San Antonio.  Thorpe is a lot like Mazur but with a better changeup but not as good a FB (he does have the frame to add velocity, however, while Mazur is rail-thin).  Snelling and Lesko are still our top minor league SP prospects because really don't know what Iriarte can do on a consistent basis.  If Niebla can get Iriarte on track, he might be neck and neck with Snelling and Lesko as a SP or, failing that, a dynamite closer in waiting.

I've been to Seoul several times and agree that it is a really cool city.  If Padres sign Lee to go along with Kim and maybe even Ryu as our #5 starter, what a reception the Padres would get versus the Dodgers to open up the 2024 season!

That's a GREAT idea Randy!

The Padres could become their version of baseball BTS!

( For those who don't know what BTS is, look 'em up! A TOTAL cultural phenomenon in South Korea)

Starting to really wonder if Kings medicals really had an issue

Well our AA rotation is going to be nasty.
