Look I said I understood the signing but we’ve been talking about HUGE moves still happening.
The rumor mill has us still in on major upgrades.
Almost everyone here agrees we still need one more bat......not a 4th or 5th BP arm.
That’s all I was referencing.
Both ... bats and arms ... not mutually exclusive ... any improvement to the 26 man roster is good. Make the upgrade when the opportunity surfaces.

Saw a clip on Johnson pitching in Japan ... actually the focus was on a wipeout breaking ball ... the clip was a string of batters whiffing. The commentary suggests part of his success was changing his pitch mix utilizing the curve a lot more.
The ML ball may add some uncertainty ... do we know the 2020 ML ball? Apparently the league is working on some “quality control” on the issue of lower seems in 2019. An unknown for all pitchers.

Although I agree adding an impact bat is needed ... don’t buy into the rumor mill beyond Preller being “interested in” or “asking about” player X. I see it as Preller telling the other teams ... I am here and before you move player X give me a call and if the trade price is low enough I am interested ... but not chasing the player beyond his price.
The rumor mill is more about generating rumors first.

Oh I'm not "buying into the rumors"....I'm looking at the roster.
If I had asked the day Kinsler retired what position his roster spot would be filled with I would have gotten:
CF,RF,SP,2B...even Catcher...I bet I wouldn't have gotten RP.
Only point I was trying to make.......not saying it was a bad signing.
Still time to go....we'll see.
Also we take shots like this almost every year and while we remember the successes we tend to forge the failures...there have been both.
Hoping this is the former.
Also slight chance this move was because someone wants one,or more, of Baez,Morejon,Perdomo,Strahm as part of another deal.
I realize Baez and/or Morejon will probably start somewhere but if we trade one or more arms this deal makes even more sense.

I saw that video of him on an MLBTR article discussing the acquisition. It did look pretty nasty. Arm slot looked pretty similar for curve and FB. I'll take the add.
Sure I think we all want a better, proven addition, just don't think it will happen soon. I think AJP is doing what Fenn said. He wants in if the price is right, and if not at least he increases the trade cost for teams like LAD. Although, we are looking to compete, I continue to believe he is also doing what he can to upgrade without blocking specs.
The one rumor that felt different to me was the C rumor. It was surprisingly detailed. Right or wrong, I think AJP is looking to make that deal before ST.
With Ryu added, I really think there is no way Myers is unloaded to fill their 1B need. Thought something could work there. Myers + L or Q + Naylor. That would give them a strong platoon and what I think is MOR SP. I would need them to eat the whole K though.

Down to Dbacks and Padres for Shogo... Appears likely he will sign by this weekend..with Calhoun signing yesterday we should be the choice now..

Im hoping for a Shogo present soon to be announced.
If he is 80% of what he was overseas he would be a great CF lead off hitter.
