Surprised there hasn’t been much activity yet.

Thought there would be an early flurry!

I like practical need and with that being said.....sign Kris Bryant.....Left Field, Third Base and First Base, DH.....I would say that fills a "Practical" need and besides....he played at USD so he gets the whole San Diego vibe....just sayin 😉

My only issue is that Bryant is RHH, and IMO were are too heavy now from the right side. I would prefer if possible some real power from the left side. The question is.......who is that option, and at what cost?

I think we need to focus less on what side of the plate they hit from and more on what kind of pitching they can hit. As things currently stand I think our lineup against righties looks decent. The situation against lefties looks much worse. Hosmer and Mazara can't hit lefties and our bench options aren't any better. The bottom third of our lineup would look really sad against lefties with our current options. I think getting better against left-handed pitching needs to be an off-season focus.

I feel like there has to be some kind of collusion going on. It seems like teams don't want it to look like they were negotiating during the lockout, so they're all waiting to announce their moves. I don't believe for a second that there aren't a bunch of deals that are already worked out.

Was thinking the same….but not at the expense of losing a player.

Sign them!

Even if they have an agreement (verbally) with a FA … may not be in a hurry to sign on the dotted line if they have a full 40 man (like the Padres). Leave a bit of time to work out how to move the offsetting player … maybe via trade. Also, there is also those pesky physicals. A day or two delay in announcing might just be practical.

Clearly the “quality” of the opposing pitchers is key but from a LH v RH perspective our Division opponents are set up with the following projects LHP:

LAD: 3 SP / 2 RP (main foe for the Division so have to weigh that)

SF: 1 SP / 3 RP

AZ: 1 SP / 2 RP

COLO: 2 SP / 1 RP

So for our main opponents within Divison … except for the LAD … not much LHP. Can Machado - Tatis - Myers - Nola - plus a RHH carry Cronenworth - Grisham - Hosmer when LHP are on the mound? Conversely since they will mainly see RHP … can those RHH hold their own while the LHH match up with the RHP?

At this point in the pre-season … just finding available good hitters (LH or RH) is difficult enough … then actually acquiring them is even harder.

This thing just got done yesterday and players need to get to their respective spring training sites....any pre lockout agreements that were not finalized are still in the works but any official signing is always dependent on passing a physical so I wouldn't be concerned about the lack of activity today or even through the weekend but would expect a huge flurry of signings / trades and various other roster moves not only for our Padres but MLB as a whole starting Monday.....we may start hearing about agreements in principle and of course the collusion theory will always be a topic of discussion so why add fuel to that fire.

I'm just glad we all FINALLY get some baseball to talk about and hope that after the last two years of all the other garbage that has consumed this country, state and city......more and more people will participate in this forum

Go Pads !!!

Apparently deals are getting done we’re just not hearing about them.

According  to Buster Olney as many as 8 deals are done we haven’t heard about?

Here is a thought for a LHH outfielder......Joc Pederson......Left Handed Power and a better outfielder than Flim Flam Pham ever was.

I gotta believe he could be a viable option as a LF / RF, 1B or DH and he wouldn't break to bank so to speak

Like I said....just a thought

Well the Giants add a LHSP … Carlos Rodon at a whopping $44MM/2 years ($22MM AAV). Great if he is healthy BUT health is a major concern.

A case for the Padres adding a RHH into the mix.
