Nomar Mazara

I defer to the Padres’ development staff … but might we be getting close to adding Mazara to the roster? Especially if Myers’ knee becomes an issue going forward.
OK, yes he is hitting but it is in EP/PCL … never a good gauge. Yes, he stuck it up with the CWS/DET in 2020-21.
However, he is only 27 and when he was with Texas (2016-19) in 2189 PA he had a slash line of 261/320/435 … that .754 OPS would make him the best hitting Padre OF. In EP (138 AB) 367/454/642 with 7 HR and a BB/K of 21/29 … so not a K machine.
So, has Mazara returned to his Texas level? If so (or even close) is he better than the current Padre alternatives? Then a question on his MiL contract … does he have an opt out in June if not added to the ML roster? Would think he has done enough to have some team pick him up for their active roster (PITT type).
Enough of a teasing resume to not just discount him out of hand.

Well,if we aren’t/can’t make any moves until the deadline I’d prefer we give someone a try.
Mazara…..Rooker…..Ruiz.

Mazara didn't lose his Texas level he lost his ABs ..last time he had a full season worth of ABs was in Texas and yes his career OPS is not too far off Myers (Tex OPS)... .754 to Wils .780 in SDP... I'd DFA Alcantara add Mazara to the 40 and 26 IL Myers for a stint make sure he is 100% and start Mazara everyday to see what he does..worst case Wil comes back and Mazara gets sent down or DFA.. Best case scenario Mazara is leading the OFers in OPS and giving us plenty of Slg%...

While we at it bring Batten up for the other 26 spot and let him move around all over the place...his bat is > Alcantara or Cano both who have none

Yeh, Alcantara and Cano have provided ZIP … one clearly goes when Tatis returns and the other with any legit alternative.
I would take a shot with Batten now if he were not just added to the EP IL (no idea the injury). Couldn’t be worse that Alcantara whose career no better than what we have seen.
Cano has been much worse than I expected … so maybe a window for Mazara as they shuffle bodies around … or maybe a home to return Beaty (not really sold on him but maybe a small improvement).
Note: I saw Abrams was back at SS yesterday … and he has been hitting recently in EP (always skeptical) … maybe even Abrams works as an upgrade over Alcantara and Cano offensively while giving INF/OF support?

CJ tbh is and was> Cano and Alcantara... he hit the ball hard and had some success especially when not playing or getting regular ABs ... I thought the kid looked ok.. at least he didn't looked over matched at the plate like Cano and Alcantara have looked...
PS development wise he needs regular ABs so AAA maybe best for him

IMO Cano has got to go.
He can barely hit the ball out of the infield.
Bring up Mazara and DFA Cano.
We don’t really need a bench infielder that can’t hit anyway….keep Alcantara until Tatis comes back.

I believe Cano knows his career is ending and soon - probably after this road trip. Nothing left in that swing when he does connect, which hasn't been often. Mazara the obvious choice to be brought up - he's earned it with his play at El Paso. Hard hit line-drives will play almost anywhere and that's what differentiates him from Thompson, who just took advantage of the altitude. Probably want to see more of Beaty in his rehab before recalling him - he needed an overhaul of his mechanics and from what I have observed over MiLB still has a little ways to go before we can trust him in the line-up.

I was just thinking this start tonight may have been a last gift for a long career.
In my opinion he’s embarrassing himself and our team by hanging on.
The Mets are trying to win a World Series and are paying him to not be on their team….it’s time for us to let him retire.

If he is good for the clubhouse give him an assistant hitting coach role or something if nobody signs him ...just retire him already
