The Padres are returning home after the Phillies swept the season series from them. They have lost 9 of the last 10 games. Now, they will host one of the worst teams in MLB, but the Padres offense are the absolute worst. If the Padres end up being swept by this team, even with their two best pitchers in this series, they will have a .500 record. This will be two of the worst teams playing each other. The Mets are 12-20 on the road and 9-18 against teams over .500, where the Padres are 16-16 at home.

France has a .286 avg., the highest among active Padres. Tatis has brought his up to .270 avg and Andujar has a .258 avg. Manny has 11 HR with Sheets behind with 10. But, both Machado and Merrill, who had 6 HR, need to improved their hitting. We need Campy to return, who had a .288 avg upon being placed on the IL. Also, no more Casrellanos.

The Padres will need to do well in this series. They will have a tough stretch in much of June following the Mets: vs Reds, at Orioles, at Cardinals, at Rangers, vs Braves, vs Dodgers, at Cubs.

NL West Matchups
Dodgers(40-22) host Angels(24-39)
Diamondbacks(32-29) host Nationals(31-32)
Giants(25-38) at Cubs(32-30)
Rockies(24-38) host Brewers(37-22)

Keep The Faith!
GO PADRES!

Looks like they went with the defensive unit ... hopefully that helps King keep the Mets at bay.

Neither team looks like it has any interest in winning a baseball game

Could have been down another run had Soto not done a Soto on that worm killer to Song.

I still can't believe ANYONE gave that guy more money than Ohtani. But I guess big market clubs don't worry about money.

What is wrong with this offense? Is our pitching showing cracks? Is Stammen another Tingler?

Preller obviously has real issues with successful baseball men. The fact neither Melvin nor Schildt lasted more than 2 seasons is proof enough for me.

Short of an absolute miracle, this season is a catastrophe.

Past 30 days the Padres have gone 10-16. The pitching is beginning to falter ... over that timeframe the team ERA was 10th in MLB but slipped to 14th over the last 15 days and slipped even further to 18th over the bast 7 days. Not a real surprise given an overworked pen with starters not going deep into games and all the early games being close so the pen is constantly under pressure.

A bit of a chain reaction triggered by the loss of Pivetta and Musgrove for basically the season ... both were upper rotation arms that could have dropped King and Vasquez to mid-rotation then not have to deal with reclamation projects. Padres would likely have more wins (and still be in a playoff slot) if Pivetta and Musgrove were healthy and on form .... and likely provide better cover for the pen.

Still it is the offense that is the main culprit ... just can't explain the breath and depth of the futility in the line-up. Veterans with legit track records as hitters failing this badly and for so long a period. Maybe some (maybe all) rebound at some point ... but when is too little too late? With a 10-16 record in the past 30 days ... if they don't dramatically improve and if the pitching does continue to regress June may be the end of the line for the season.

Side note: did hear on the broadcast that the Padres are last in MLB in scoring runs in the first inning this season ... only 15 in 62 games. That is shockingly low.

Saw that Tatis has a .426 BA over the past 10 games, yet only scored 4 times? That's ridiculous! With his speed alone he should have scored more than that.

And hitting Sheets in the 2 hole? I'm not sure in which Bizarro world that makes any sense?

Just seems a REALLY bad offensive approach to baseball, whatever approach they're taking.

It is not all on Manny ... but a bit more worried about his offense as he turns 34 next month. Plus getting a bit tired of both him and the media saying by the end of the season he will make the numbers on the back of his baseball card.

Looking a bit deeper ... Manny's struggles started at the end of last season making this a four month "slump". Consider:

178/262/355 (617) ...217 AB YTD

207/250/425 (675) ... 87 AB Sep 2025

222/294/296 (590) ... 103 AB Aug 2025

2/3rd of an equivalent season with Manny consistently below the ML average OPS and well below Manny's past performance. The only thing hold him this hight is he still is hitting HR to push up SLG but doing little else to help the team. YTD ... for qualified hitters ... Manny is second to last in BA ... #163 out of 164. Hard to gloss over that for the future Hall of Fame and their middle of the order hitter.
