Minnesota Twins at San Diego Padres: Aug 19-21

Darn! Those Dodgers win again. Let's hope Logan and the Mariners can stop them tomorrow.

At least the Padres did not lose ground.

Hats off to the Mad Friars staff, the info they post on X/Twitter is excellent. If you haven't seen this from MLB, you need to watch, comparing the Pads to a hot nightclub, it is awesome/a must see, only surprising thing was no mention of Tati.  Go Pads!

Lots of interesting info. in Acee's notebook today:

#1 Nando said "I'll be back soon."  Adding him to the lineup lenghtens it so much.  It is probably killing him that he isn't playing right now.  Nando usually performs well on the big stage and the importance of these games would qualify as being on the big stage.

#2 Bogey does not want to switch back to SS while Kim is on the IL.  Look for more of Wade at SS until HSK returns.  Bogey reasoning is that it took him so long to feel comfortable at 2B and claims he made the switch because the team ask him to do so, that it is not fair to ask him to switch back now.  X claims that switching between the 2 positions is not easy.  I have no problem with this.

#3 The Pads are finally playing well at Petco this year, having won 7 in a row; 9 of the last 10; and 22 of the past 31 home games (.710 winning percentage).  This means the Pads started 13-17 for the first 30 home games (.433 winning percentage).  The Pads need to continue to dominate at home!  Go Pads!

I have to admit that I am little worried about Waldron on the mound. I hope that he is on his game today.

I have to admit that I am little worried about Waldron on the mound. I hope that he is on his game today.

That is why I really wanted them to secure the series yesterday, they don't need Waldron to win a rubber game, remember that the Twins are a tough team, a sweep would be sweet, but if they don't, no big deal.

Aug. 21: IF Mason McCoy's contract selected from Triple-A El Paso; IF Matthew Batten optioned to El Paso; OF Fernando Tatis Jr. transferred to 60-day IL
Tatis' move to the 60-day IL was procedural, with the Padres needing to clear a 40-man roster spot for McCoy. Tuesday marked 60 days on the IL for Tatis with a right femoral stress reaction, so he'll be eligible to return whenever he's ready. (On that front, there was no further update from manager Mike Shildt.)

How Is Vazquez doing in AAA? Just asking 🥲

Sure looks as though Waldron has had it for the season … last 6-7 starts not ML quality.

Let us hope Darvish is on track to return otherwise Vazquez may be the alternative no matter how he is doing in AAA.

Of course if the Padres’ development staff see enough out of Omar Cruz, LHP, who has been effective in AA/AAA … maybe roll the dice there … think they will roster him anyway this offseason to protect him from Rule 5.

I thought Shildt was just going to bail on this game and let Waldron get crushed for as long as he could go so he can save as much pen as possible for the critical four game set vs the METS.

However, Waldron was near 100 pitches in 4.1 innings … can only take so much.

—————-

Would not be surprised to see Waldron optioned after the game and another RP called up for the METS series … then a RP goes down and a starter is called up in 5 days.

Need the most options in the pen for the next four games.

This game was ugly. The Dbacks won and now in a second place tie withe Padres. At least the Padres won the series.

Wade is no shortstop. Despite this game I give props to Merrill for hitting his 18th HR

Shildt left in Waldron too long. He wasn't getting anyone out in the 4th. He has nothing on his pitches. It was like batting practice for the twins. IMO, sometimes, a pitcher need to be pulled out early.

Vasquez is not doing good at all. Omar Cruz is doing well. He currently has a 2.51 ERA in El Paso. I say the move would be either DFA or outright release Waldron to make room on the 40-man roster and then bring up LHP Omar Cruz until Darvish returns.

Let's hope the Dodgers lose tonight.

GO PADRES!
