Monday, August 19 - 6:40pm
RHP Zebby Matthews(1-0 3.60 ERA, 5 IP, 5 K, .250 BAA) vs RHP Michael King(10-6 3.10 ERA, 161 K, .221 BAA)

Tuesday, August 20 - 6:40pm
RHP Bailey Ober(12-5 3.49 ERA, 140 K, .205 BAA) vs LHP Martín Pérez(3-5 4.61 ERA, 84 K, .287 BAA)

Wednesday, August 21 - 3:40pm
RHP Simeon Woods Richardson(4-3 3.77 ERA, 92 K, .231 BAA) vs RHP Matt Waldron(7-10 4.29 ERA, 127 K, .240 BAA)

The Padres return home after losing the series to the Rockies, but have a 20-6 record since the AS break, best in MLB. They begin the toughest part of the August schedule to face off against the Twins and then the Mets, who swept them last June, in a 7-game homestand. Then, they hit the road to face the Cardinals and the Rays to end the month and an 18 straight day stretch without a day off. They are 3 games behind the Dodgers and 1 game ahead of the Dbacks.

King has been solid in his last start pitching 6 shutout innings and a 1.94 ERA in his last 7 starts.
Pérez has been solid since coming to the Padres. He has a 1.96 ERA and a .164 BAA in 3 starts with the team.
Waldron has not been good since they AS break. Before the break he has a 3.70 ERA and after the break he has a 6.25 ERA.

The bad news is that Kim had a shoulder injury in Sunday's game against the Rockies. How bad it is and how long he will be out is not yet known. Let's hope for positive news.

GO PADRES!

Twins are a strong team with good pitching.  This is the kind of team the Padres usually get fired up against so I see a real dogfight over these 3 games.  It will be tough, but I'm thinking we'll get the Padres' best efforts and, as a result, looking forward to what happens in this series.  Go Padres!

Padres win. Pitching outstanding and Merrill hits in the game winning runs.

Let's take game 2.

GO PADRES!

Here is a very interesting post about AJP's trade deadline acquistions.  Tough match-up for Perez tonight vs. Ober, who has been pitching very well lately also.  Go Pads!

Since Perez has been with the Padres, he pitched against bottom teams Rockies, Marlins, and the Pirates. When he was a Pirate, he pitched against top teams such as the Brewers, Phillies and Red Sox and did not do well. Now he is going against the Twins, a top team. Let's hope he does well against them.

Kim's going on the 10 day. Matthew Batten is a slightly surprising call up to take his spot. Wade is starting again, but with Kim officially going on the IL I do wonder if they'll consider sliding Bogaerts back over to SS.

Well Batten may be a better SS option (if needed) than Rosario plus can play more positions defensively (reasonably well) than Rosario. If Shildt shifts moves either Bogaerts or Croney to SS ... Arraez or Solano are both likely in the starting 9 ... Batten, Wade (L), and Johnson (#) become the bench with a lot of defensive versatility ... albeit little offense.

Nothing in AAA screaming to be called up ... at least Batten has been in the ML and provided a RHH hitter to balance Wade's LHH if they need to drop in an INF somewhere along the line.

Padres win and take the series. Way to go Machado(2-run HR) and Profar(3-run HR).

Perez and Scott were not on their game tonight. But the Padres made a comeback to take the series.

Padres remain 1 game ahead of the Dbacks.

Let's sweep tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

Another gutsy come from behind win. This team doesn't quit. Now let's see if the Mariners can hang on against the Dodgers.

They didn't, man, those Mariners really fell of a cliff after their series against our Pads.
