Leodalis De Vries
Quote from LynchMob on April 26, 2024, 10:07 amTime for his own thread 🙂
From BA's Prospect Report today ...
Leodalis De Vries, SS, Padres: It sounds like it’s going to be a notable summer for Padres top 2024 international signee Leodalis De Vries. After a two-hit game on Wednesday with Low-A Lake Elsinore, De Vries followed that up with another two-hit game on Thursday while collecting the first four RBIs of his career. De Vries hit his first career triple in the third inning, giving him consecutive games with extra-base hits. Over the first three games of his career the reports on De Vries have been loud. Much like Padres top 2023 international signee Ethan Salas rocketed up ranks, there should be a similar climb up rankings for De Vries this season.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 26, 2024, 12:27 pmLooks good at the plate....but as a 17 year old kid never playing meaningful games, he needs to learn the game at the professional level.
Not sure if you saw the video?
Standing and admiring a ball that hits the wall into a single, isn't gonna fly.
He'll learn....not his fault. That's what teenagers do,especially not playing in high level organized leagues like we have here in the US....heck it still happens in MLB.
Just not a great look for a 17 year old.

Sounds like he'll fit right in with our guys.

Quote from Randy Manese on May 13, 2024, 10:40 amJammed shoulder has kept him out for several weeks. Hope he gets back healthy soon. Surprised he wasn't put on IL so I guess it's sort of a day to day thing that's taking way longer to heal than the trainers/doc's thought. Regarding his watching the ball hit the wall for a long single, he'll learn and mature. The fact that he can bounce balls off the wall at 17 in Low A with no prior pro experience is encouraging.

Hasn’t played in four days
I think one of the daily reports here said he hurt his shoulder. There are some Twitter reports that he's going to play in the Fall League. Maybe he'll be back soon.

Quote from Randy Manese on August 27, 2024, 10:15 pmHe jammed his other shoulder (I believe it is the right shoulder this time) so he was put on the IL. Initially, there was a thought he might be back for the California League playoffs but not so sure. It's been a long season for someone so young, so might just want to give him a rest rather than push him to the AFL.
By the way, my wife and I were at the Lake Elsinore game tonight and despite Miguel Valdez giving up a granny in the to of the 9th, it was a very well played game. I especially like what I saw of Wandy Peralta; he looked very sharp and didn't give up any hard contact that could have been a hit. Another interesting thing happened. When Peralta came in, the bases were empty there were 2 outs and Storm had a 10-2 lead, however, it was decided to intentionally walk the first batter Peralta faced. I'm guessing they just wanted Peralta to experience a game-like situation with a runner on base otherwise why do it? I know it was against a Low A team, but he looked like he did earlier in the season for the Padres - I think he's ready to come back any time they need him.

Quote from LynchMob on September 14, 2024, 1:06 pmNotes: Leo De Vries continued to work back from the right shoulder injury he suffered diving for a ball on August 17, taking grounders and hitting on the field while wearing a brace. He still isn’t making throws, but he should be on track to be at full speed when the Arizona Fall League gets underway. He’ll be the youngest player ever to appear in the showcase circuit.

Anonymous3 hours agoWho moves quicker through their respective system: Leo De Vries or Franklin Arias? Both at the same level, around the same ageGeoff Pontes2 hours agoI believe it will be De Vries he's just a higher tier of prospect and the Padres have been anything but shy when it comes to moving players quickly and challenging them each season.
Anonymous3 hours agoLeo De Vries seems to be on a similar path as Ethan Salas so far. Does Salas' struggles keep the Padres from moving Leo up as quickly as they did Salas?Geoff Pontes2 hours agoI don't think so, I don't think the organization is scared of setting their prospects up for struggles. In fact, I think they like to challenge talented players with adversity.

Now: Ethan Salas, C
Next Year: Leodalis De Vries, SS
No, Salas isn’t going to graduate to San Diego as 19-year-old next summer. He's very good -- but De Vries is better.
