Snell is his own worst enemy.

He’s gotta learn how to go deeper into games.

He gets ahead of hitters and then can’t throw a strike and loses them.

He gets two quick outs in a inning and then spends 20 more pitches trying to get that 3rd out.

I really hope someone tells him to trust his stuff and throw strikes even when ahead in the count so he can go 6-7 innings in a game.

It’s OK to waste a pitch here and there.....but man,he takes wasting pitches to an art form and that’s why he can’t go more than 5 innings in  game.

Snell is a hard one to figure out. Almost seems as though his mechanics go in and out of sync in the course of the game. Many of his “misses” are way way out of the strike zone ... suggesting a lot more than just trying to “nibble” off the edge. Not sure how coaching addresses that?

Having said that he went 5.1 innings (89 pitches) last night and could (should) have gone at least 6 innings against the #1 team in MLB while only giving up 2 runs.

Think last night the focus should be on why Tingler pulled him in the 6th. Sure he was nearing the end after 89 pitches but got the first out and scheduled were the #8 hitter Neuse (who he handled well in his other two AB) and the pitcher ... and a one run lead.

Snell wants to go deeper ... Tingler said the Padres want him to go deeper .... yet hard to see the scenario at hand dictating pulling him. At least let him try to finish the 6th and get ready to pull him if Neuse gets on base.

I thought that BEFORE Johnson came in and just imploded ... Johnson just piled on to the dislike of the move.

Tingler needs to let his best pitchers continue to battle.

As much as I like our pen, our starters need to be allowed to finish at least 6. How else are they going to get comfortable in tough games if the manager continually pulls them at the slightest hint of trouble?

Disagree.  Think that's hindsight.  Pen has been elite all year. Snell puts himself in position for that hook by taking 6-7-8 pitches EVERY batter to get through the AB.  Tingler can't trust him go right at the #8 hitter b/c he hasn't done it all season.  Of all the rollercoaster stuff going on this season so far, Snell is irritating me the most.

He never shuts up, talks like he's an ace.... and he's not.  I get a STRONG "(50) Million $ arm, 10 cent head" vibe.  There is something DRASTICALLY wrong with his approach.  His stuff is just way too good to labor through every AB & IP the way he is.  Feels like he's a "40" grade command guy approaching the start like he's Greg Maddux trying to set up in the 1st inning what he's going to throw the cleanup hitter on the 2nd pitch of the 3rd AB...  It just feels distinctly that unlike say Paddack who is just more "stuff limited/location dependent", Snell is the cause of his own problems.

Seems like the Rx for a guy like this is to simply get WAY more aggressive over the plate.  Live with mistakes being hit, not trying to spot corners you're not capable of hitting.  His 2018 Cy Young year really looks like an outlier in terms of BB &  BAA.  Has never come close to those #'s any other year.   BUT in tiny sample of 20 2/3 IP this year, his K/9 is 13.5 vs. 11.0 in 2018!  But he's on pace for > 100 BB vs 64 in 2018 (180+ IP).  The K/9 #'s will probably decline, and may be partly due TO the relative lack of command (batters taking called 3rd strike deep in counts?)

New team, yes he got "stuck" with Campusano first few turns, but that's done now.  Needs to stop talking about doing something different & do it.  The ability is definitely there, but SOMEthing is wrong for him to be missing as badly as often as he does.

I was OK with trading Patino for him, and it feels almost "necessary" that we did now given where young SP's even Paddack are at, injury issues etc.  But I felt the total trade package was very steep; didn't like that it was 2 Catchers, 2 RH SP making us short on both in system now.  Given how great Musgrove has been so far, think Pads are fine if Snell is an average #3 SP.  But trade cost (given Snell's salary) was too high for an "OK #4 SP who can't go > 5 IP"; which is what he's been so far.

It's up to the SP to have done something to earn the Manager's trust he can get out of it.  I don't think Snell has done that yet this year.

Bauer on Tatis.

Pham starts in LF and on his first AB appears to have injured his left calf. Pulled from the game.

Myers did not start (Pham in LF / Profar in RF) ... after Pham pulled Profar went to LF and MATEO inserted in RF. Bit surprised ... in a game against LAD and with tomorrow off surprised Myers was not inserted?

Musgrove not looking good ... not chasing his breaking stuff off the plate.

Tatis makes another error (league leading #9 .. next highest in ML at 6) ... ground ball right at him.

Mateo makes a poor play in RF turning a 2B into a 3B.

May looks dominate for LA so far.

Guessing that “change-up specialist” Ramirez just earned his way back to the minors when the next move is needed.

He was let go by the Tigers, enough said

Why take the bunt off for Weathers?  I love the way this team plays, but man, they are terrible in extra innings getting the runner in from third.
