James Wood

PreviousPage 4 of 4

James Wood is on absolute fire right now…what is it….5 HR’s in last 3 games?

Imagine when he adds 2o lbs.

As I said at the time of the trade….Wood will be the “one that got away”.

July 1st is the day I (we) have been dreading. Nats will bring Wood up and I would bet a huge amount that he will become a star . 6 ft 7 , hits like Judge , Runs like De La Cruz and has a 42 K to 40 BB ratio this year . I wasn't against the Soto trade at the time but hated that Hassell was involved but was devastated when I heard that Wood was included . I really thought it was crazy to trade both because there was no way Soto would sign anywhere be Free Agency . Wppd will be the " One who got away " Thank goodness they waited till after our series .

My only doubt about Wood was whether he could reduce a K rate of over 30% given his large strike zone and propensity to chase.  It appears he has done that this year, but the scouting reports always said he'd be a power over average kind of guy.  Not saying he is not a talent but other highly touted rookies, like Jackson Holliday, have found the transition tough with even better bat to ball skills.  It will be interesting to see where he is at  about a month or so into his debut.  In the meantime, Im happy with the guy we got in CF.

I hope he does well.

Just not “the LH Aaron Judge” well.

... and #44 is CJ Abrams.

From an MLB newsletter forwarded to me by a friend ...

Speaking of young hitters doing esoteric things, emerging Nats star James Wood launched a missile of a homer last night (on his bobblehead night!) at 116.3 mph, the hardest-hit ball of his career. But that wasn’t the only unique thing about the glorious clout. As Thomas Harrigan laid out last week, Wood is a unique type of slugger because he rarely pulls the ball in the air. In fact, this home run was his first ball hit in the air of any kind to the pull side this year. And it soared 431 feet into the second deck. Go figure.
