If Jackson Merrill wins Rookie-of-the-Year ...
Quote from brent wolff on October 7, 2024, 7:05 pmit will yeild a compesation draft pick after round 1 under the Prospect Promotion Incentive. That could be huge, it increases the draft pool of money and could turn into a future major leaguer. I hope Merrill Madness comes through and they don't give the award to Skenes. Skenes is already winning as his girlfriend is Olivia Dunne, she is a smoking hot gymnast from LSU. If you don't know who Olivia Dunne is, do a search of google images of her, you won't be disappointed. After Merrill, I would personally vote for Jackson Chourio 2nd and Skenes 3rd. Go Action Jackson!

Quote from lafnboy13 on October 9, 2024, 6:02 amI would be really salty if it goes to Skenes. I don't deny how good he is but Merrill's body of work is through a whole season, into the playoffs and almost every day. The skill on top of the consistency absolutely cannot be ignored.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on October 9, 2024, 7:54 amIt's going to be interesting to see how it plays out. Skenes has a big edge on Baseball Reference. Fangraphs has Merrill well ahead of him. Baseball Prospectus does as well. Both are deserving. There's going to be one upset fanbase either way. Merrill has the advantage of being the last man standing. They can say that postseason performance doesn't factor in, but if he keeps doing what he's been doing it absolutely will.

I was 10, so I didn't know about that, looking at the numbers, Nomo did pitch almost 200 innings, Chipper hit only .262, had a great year for a rookie, but Merrill was on another level IMO.

Quote from MrPadre19 on October 14, 2024, 12:38 pmYeah it wasn't exactly the same but Nomo was a rookie who had pitched several seasons in Japan already...like Imanaga.
Hardly a "true" rookie.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on October 14, 2024, 1:35 pmYeah I feel like players that come over directly from a foreign professional league should be ineligible. Someone like Yamamoto with a 325m contract shouldn't be competing with guys that came up through the minors.

It would be interesting to know If there is a ROY award given by the Japanese League, and, If so, do foreigners with major league experience are eligible.
