Gold and Silver Padres- Post Season Awards
Quote from 3fingersplit on November 6, 2020, 8:47 amBaseball is a funny game that has awards for everything it seems like given out by any number of organizations which is cool because even though baseball is a team game individuals do need to be recognized for stellar seasons.
Congratulations to our Padres for making 2020 a season to remember in very trying times
Silver Sluggers - Louisville Slugger Bats
Manny Machado - 3B
Fernando Tatis Jr - SS
Both First Time Winners
Golden Glove - Rawlings Gloves
Trent Grisham - CF
First Time Winner
Rookie of the Year - Baseball Digest
Jake Cronenworth - 2B
More awards to be named by the BBWAA - Baseball Writers Association of America and there are some Padres as finalist for some
Jayce Tingler - Manager of the Year
Manny Machado - Most Valuable Player
Just nice to see the players and manager get recognized for having very solid seasons and this team was fun to watch all year
Hopefully 2021 is even better

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 11, 2020, 4:45 amI find it hard to believe its an East Coast vs West Coast thing when the Dodgers win almost every award they are up for.
There is "some" due to the time the games are on(East coasters don't stay up to watch) ....but we suffer from small market bias combined with too much losing in addition.

Quote from hoffy51 on November 11, 2020, 5:45 amI think when it is obvious, the writers will give it a fair shot, but when it is close, that's when the bias kicks in IMHO. Tingler had the third best record in all of baseball, and the Marlins had the fourteenth. The Padres had injuries to overcome. The Padres lost 92 games the year before and finished last. Give me a break.

Quote from fenn68 on November 11, 2020, 6:49 amVoting from the BBWAA is based on two representatives for each National League city (30 votes).
From my understanding, on the Cronenworth vote, NEITHER SD representative voted him #1 ... they went Bohm. No idea on the voting mix for manager of the year.
Everyone has their own criteria but have to think Cronenworth's collapse in September (sub-.600 OPS) during the playoff run did him in.
Don't really have an issue with the manager selection ... Miami was predicted to the the 3rd worst team in MLB prior to the season while the Padres were predicted to be a .500 team ....... Miami set an all-time record in players used in a season ..... Padres had some legit stars (e.g. Machado, Tatis, Hosmer) while Miami had ????????????
Not winning does not make me think anything less of the seasons Cronenworth and Tingler had .. good is good whether BBWAA vote them #1 or not.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 11, 2020, 7:30 amIt does suck however when with just 15 games to go we basically had the MVP and ROY wrapped up.
Both guys slumped at the worse time for them individually.

Quote from fenn68 on November 12, 2020, 6:39 amLooking at the Cy Young voting ... need to give Lamet some big love for coming in a very strong 4th place ... big vote drop to 5th place.
With all the focus on Machado, Tatis, Cronenworth, Grisham, Clevinger and even the debates on Paddack, Hosmer, Myers ... Lamet seems to be under hyped for his 2020 season and future value. Just have to hope on his health.

Quote from fenn68 on November 12, 2020, 8:26 pmAs expected Machado 3rd and Tatis 4th in the MVP voting. Both getting solid support across the board for those slots. Two players from the same team landing over 200 points in the voting and settling in 3rd and 4th is impressive in its own right.
Side note: Wil Myers got one 9th place vote (2 points) ... tied for 19th .... may be viewed as irrelevant but just getting a vote for MVP from someone is a good thing.
