Ryan (Abingdon, MD):

Do you think Gabriel Arias will ever be a league average bat?

Kyle Glaser: Soooo....I personally have seen enough that I hold out some hope that he can eventually be. That said, I'm in the minority camp.

He's making adjustments!

From today's Daily Farm Report ...

One of the few highlights this year has been SS Gabriel Arias. A defensive wizard at shortstop, Arias is also hitting .300 with a .376 OBP.  He singled and scored the first run of the game, then came up in the third after a Luis Campusano double and laid down a beautiful bunt single.  But to encapsulate the Storm season thus far, Arias was picked off trying to steal, and injured his knee on the play.  No word on the severity of the injury as of yet.

Seven days after he went on the Injured List, Gabriel Arias was activated and in the Storm lineup at shortstop.

From today's DFR ...

Gabriel Arias, playing at third base for just the second time this year, homered twice and singled in four trips to the plate. The talented infielder had a rough May after spending the first week of the month on the Injured List, but has turned it on of late. He’s hit in nine straight games and, despite 11 strikeouts in 39 plate appearances, sports a 1.018 OPS so far this month. While he’s often sold out for pull power, his two blasts Sunday were to right-center and left-center. Through 51 games in Elsinore this year, he’s surpassed his 2018 season home run total.

15. Gabriel Arias, SS, Padres
Team: High Class A Lake Elsinore (California)
Age: 19
Why He's Here: .385/.407/.769 (10-for-26), 6 R, 1 2B, 3 HR, 6 RBIs, 1 BB, 5 SO

The Scoop: In 32 games since the California League all-star break, Arias is hitting .357/.400/.540. In some organizations, he might be a top 10 prospect, but that's harder to pull off in one of the most stacked farm systems in baseball. (BB)

Dave (Mpls):

What are your thoughts on Gabriel Arias? Only 19 and in High A, plus defense at SS, and he's starting to hit the snot out of the ball.

Kyle Glaser: I've always kind of liked him (and I have the chat history to prove it 🙂 ). The pitch selection is getting much, much better, even just comparing from April until now. There's a lot of line drives to right-center and he's certainly growing in the box. There is still some skepticism from evaluators he'll hit enough to be a true everyday guy, but he's moving in the right direction and is definitely going to find himself on the Cal League Top 20 prospects list

This is from a couple of weeks ago, but still interesting ...

From today's DFR ...

Gabriel Arias continued his stellar second half, picking up a pair of hits on the night. The teenaged shortstop has shaved off a third of his strikeouts and pushed up his OPS by more than 200 points since the break thanks to an improved approach and better pitch recognition.
