Tatis is continuing to hold his slash line at a very productive level. Really can't find many holes except a high K-rate. Alonso is slumping and if he does not make a turn around in the next two months ... it would be a travesty for him to win the ROY.

Tatis will have 5 of 6 months in this season ... there have been other ROY who have not played a full season ... losing 1 month (when you are at the end of the season) is (shouldn't be) an issue.

Tatis is on track to hitting 30 HR / 20 SB while being mega entertaining in the field and on the base paths. Him getting the ROY is just plain good for baseball. (did notice on one of the promos for a national TV game between SD and LA .. it was billed as Tatis v Bellinger ... seems as if Tatis is beginning to get that national recognitions..

Alonso has been in a long slump but.....he still hits a homerun here and there and with every one he hits he gets closer

to sealing the award.

It's a shame because especially this season, homeruns are up all over.....what Tatis does is not.

And if the NYM win the Wild Card spot ... might seal the deal for him.

Yup

If Alonso and the Mets get into a one game Wild Card and  Tatis and the Padres fight it out and claim last place in the NL West then Alonso wins the Rookie of the Year

Now a message from Capt Obvious.......Fernando Tatis Jr is pretty GOOD

If AJ Preller never makes another deal his whole life the one that got Tatis included in the trade for James Shields is and will always be in the TOP 5 of all time in my opinion.

I just love the energy and fun this kid plays with 🙂

Go Pads !!!

It would be the Khalil Greene vs Jason Bay situation all over again :(, advanced metrics clearly show that Khalil shouldve won that

Close, I think this would be more like Ozzie Smith vs Bob Horner 1978. Looking back that vote looks as bad as Alonso over Tatis

Just one game ... highlights at the plate and on the field ... worth watching ... this kid has exceeded my expectations!  Oh, Doctor!

Classic national narrative!

NL Rookie of the Year

Could Pete Alonso hit 40 homers and somehow lose this award? Feels doubtful, but it ultimately could depend how strongly the voters feel about the total package the 20-year-old Fernando Tatis Jr. presents with his fantastic defensive profile.

I guess we'll see how the national media feels about his "defensive profile" after THIS happens ...

If Tatis gets four plate appearances on Sunday, he will qualify for the Major League leaderboards, and his .324 average should put him in the thick of the race for the National League batting title. He’s 12 points behind Christian Yelich.

6-7 weeks should get them both maybe 150 more PA ... so a lot to help swing the decision. Have been encouraged by the national attention on MLB Network where they are doing a lot to showcase Tatis ... had a comparison showing Tatis among the four best 20 year old (and younger) rookie SS of all time. Anytime you are on a list that includes Alex Rodriguez ... impressive.

At some point beyond the “all around play” from Tatis .... might have to also consider his HR run stats ... currently at 22 and could easily reach 30. Then blend in SB ... currently at 16 ... should land him in that rarified 20/20 category for a SS and, if the Padres let him run wild the rest of the way out ... is 30/30 possible? Would be very hard for the BBWAA to ignore that rare outcome and from a 20 year old rookie.

My biggest concern is IF the NYM make the playoffs (vote before post-season play) and the overall hype that surrounds making the playoffs in NY.

Vlad Jr has a 13 pitch AB that ends up in a DP and everybody goes crazy and dont stop talking about it, Tatis Jr has done some amazing things that at times barely get notice... I guess there is not much to say but "It is what it is"
