Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres: Sept 11-14

Bad move pinch hitting for Fermin here in the 8th. Kid has shown he can bunt. 1st and 2nd, no outs, first real threat of the night. Gotta get 'em over. Brings in Wagner, who must not be able to bunt, hits into a 6-4-3 DP. Rotten AB for young Wagner.

Those Rockies have really nice pitching, allowed only 2 runs last night, 1 run through 4 tonight, 🤦

Or is it the poor Padre hitting?

Yesterday starter Brown has a 9+ERA ... went 4.1 innings and 2 runs.

Today starter Gordon has a 6+ERA ... went 6 innings and 1 run.

Maybe some "nice" stats for individual players ... the Padres rank 25th in runs scored in the ML ... and scoring runs helps winning.

The Padres lost, but so did the Dodgers. Padres remain 2.5 games back.

Sears was solid after 3 innings then collapsed. The BP was solid especially Marinaccio pitching 3 scoreless inning.

But, I put the blame on the lack of offense and Schildt's bonehead move to remove Fermin for Wagner.

The Padres offense need to come alive and take the next two games in this series.

GO PADRES!

Watch out for the Giants, who hit a walk off grand slam in the 10th to beat the Dodgers,. They are only a 1/2 game behind the Mets.

If Laureano comes up with that ball in the 4th it could have been a totally different ballgame. The offense needs to be much better though.

My bad, I was trying to be sarcastic, even though last night's win felt good, still I was thinking about how they won 2-0 against that guy pitching, I know Schildt has to keep it cool, but watching the ABs they take, I would be really worried If I was him, before the deadline making the playoffs was the goal, after it, everything changed, we all know they gave up a very good amount of quality prospects to make a good run, It would be a real shame If they miss the opportunity.

With the season running out .... and a good lead for a playoff slot ... Padres should be in and the moving forward the key will be Pivetta and King pitching at ace levels and the pen remains strong (and the offense squeezing out some runs). That should get them a great chance to win 2 in the 3 game 1st series and even 3 in the 5 game set with only 1 of Cease, Darvish, or Vasquez having a strong goes vs the other teams 3-4-5 (if it sets up that way).

The offense just has to do "something" in those games ...

Still hoping they pass the LAD and get home field on that 1st series ... that would create a round 1 vs SF or CINN as I expect the NYM to continue their free fall and out of the playoffs. CUBS are hot and should get home field vs the LAD or SD, whichever does not win the NL West.

Game 3 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Arraez 2B
3. Machado 3B
4. Sheets DH
5. Laureano LF
6. Merrill CF
7. O'Hearn 1B
8. Cronenworth SS
9. Diaz C

Cease P

Sears optioned to EP.

Rodriguez called-up to bolster the pen.

The Padres win their 81st game.

Cease looked a lot better tonight.

Padres finally come alive and hit 4 HRs tonight. The offense gave the BP much needed rest. Congratulations to Johnson on his first HR as a Padre.

I hope Arraez is OK after Wagner accidently hits him on the side of the face while throwing the ball to O'Hearn.

Darvish on the mound tomorrow. Let's win and take the series.

GO PADRES!
