Quote from ultratvfan on July 29, 2026, 3:51 pmThe Padres win their 5th straight and are 2 games above .500. They passed the Nationals and Pirates in the wild card standings and now on the doorstep to the wild card 3rd spot currently occupied by the Phillies(57-52) and the Dbacks(57-52) in the 2nd spot. The Padres passed 4 teams in 5 days.
Pitching was outstanding. Estrada pitched well his first game back.
Bring on the Giants!
GO PADRES!

Nice to see Canning have some success though. And Hart did well? Definitely good to see Estrada back👍🏽

Stammen / Niebla are walking a tight rope on the pitching ...
Only King is a likely 6 inning starter .... looks as though Buehler and Sears are being used as 5 inning starters. After that the "starters" struggle to pass 3 innings and the pen is basically filled with 1-2 inning types.
Want to win each game but don't want to burn out any of the arms creating a bigger issue for the rest of the season. Have to really understand your pitchers and their limitations ... the short run opposition profile ... and balance in game and short run usage patterns.
Can hope one of the current crop of Canning, Vasquez, Marquez pull it together and can move to a 5+ inning (effective) starter ... hope one of Pivetta, Musgrove, Giolito can return as a 5+ inning starter ... hope they can get a 5+ inning starter at the deadline.
Get two more starters going 5+ innings (effectively) allows the RP to settle back to a better usage pattern keeping them sharper.
Until there is some longer starts out of the starters ... Padres will have to gamble on the mix and match approach to win and "hope" things improve with the starters before the relief pitchers collapse.

Quote from Randy Manese on July 30, 2026, 9:17 amHave to believe the arms are coming soon via trade and then a return by one or more of the injured pitchers. Given the challenges of finding SP this year, I believe Stammen and Niebla have done an incredible job keeping the team in contention. We also have some RP options plus a RP might also be in the mix for a trade. Going to the game tonight - we'll hope for the best against SF.
