King P

I really enjoy watching King pitch but man, when he doesn't have his accuracy, his pitches all seem to drift right through the heart of the hitting zone.

Hopefully the boys can push across another few runs for him tonight.

Go Pads!

Uh oh, Booster....here comes our Closer in a tie game!!!!!

This can't end well......

The Padres win their 4th in a row in a rollercoaster game.

They have moved up to 13 games behind the Dodgers. They are still 1.5 games behind the 3rd spot in the wild card race, but have passed the Cardinals in the standings. That now leaves the Pirates, Dbacks and Nationals. If the Padres win tomorrow and both the Pirates and Nationals lose only the Dbacks stand in the way.

All except for one inning, King pitched well and Miller shuts the door.

Tatis goes 5 for 5 first time in his career.

GO PADRES!

We may have to dust off the "Cardiac Kids" label for this team and their late innings offense.

I like looking at the loss column (can add wins but can't subtract losses). In that view the Padres are tied with WASH and PITT ...only 1 loss more than AZ (and will face them right after the deadline) and only 2 losses more than PHIL.

Padres have their faults but don't underestimate the faults with all the other contenders.

If a bit of luck turns the Padres' way ... the effective return of most of Pivetta, Musgrove, Giolito, Estrada, Morgan, Adam by SEPT could move the Padres well into a playoff slot and even make them competitive in the playoffs. If that is the thinking by Preller ... only probably need one plus mid rotation SP in a trade deadline deal.

Hahaha! Worked out well this time!

Report that Estrada was in SD with the Padres yesterday. His rehabs have gone well. So,

  1. might see him him added to the 26 man (and someone optioned) as needed ... especially if the stress the pen in the next few days
  2. might be there for a quick add if Preller swings a trade using a current RP
  3. might be getting his knee re-evaluaed
  4. probably not pending a Estrada trade (could have just stayed in EP in that scenario)

Likely to see Estrada activated in the next day or two ... no reason to just sitting (throwing bullpens) for any length of time when EP is just a short flight.

Getting Estrada back will be a huge boost. Bradgley Rodriguez seems to struggle in big situations. He's giving up a .968 OPS in high leverage situations vs a .512 in medium, and a .383 in low. He's also allowed over half of his inherited runners to score. The overall numbers look good, but I don't have much faith in him in with the game on the line. Estrada's return will push him back down the pecking order.
