10-3
Friday, April 11 - 6:40pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Germán Márquez(0-1, 2.45 ERA, 7 K, .231 BAA) vs RHP Nick Pivetta(1-1, 2.70 ERA, 8 K, .189 BAA)Saturday, April 12, TV: San Diego Cox 83 - 5:40pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Chase Dollander(1-0, 7.20 ERA, 6 K, .333 BAA) vs LHP Kyle Hart(1-0, 11.12 ERA, 4 K, .333 BAA)Sunday, April 13, TV: San Diego Cox 83 - 1:10pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
LHP Kyle Freeland(0-2, 3.79 ERA, 15 K, .257 BAA) vs RHP Michael King(2-0, 4.05 ERA, 16 K, .259 BAA)The Padres head home with a 7-0 record at Petco Park to face the Rockies, who they have always had a tough time beating. Last season the Padres were 5-8 against them and 2-4 at Petco. The one player that had always been a thorn in their side was Blackmon. Not anymore now that is retired. This season the Rockies are 0-5 against teams that are over .500 and 1-5 against NL teams.
The Padres will be facing all RHP, which they are hitting .309 avg, best in MLB, but hitting .245 against LHP.
Giants head to New York(9-3) to face the Yankees(7-5), Dbacks(7-6) host the Brewers and the Dodgers(10-4) host the Cubs(9-6).
I like the chances of taking the series and a sweep.
GO PADRES!

Quote from Randy Manese on April 10, 2025, 4:18 pmWill this finally be the year the Padres don't play down to the opposition, especially the Rockies? Rockies always get surprisingly good pitching from their starters in SD, so hoping Pivetta and King, in particular are sharp. Rockies put up 12 runs against the Athletics and 7 today against Milwaukee for the win, so I don't expect a cakewalk with Hart getting hit hard so far. I'm thinking 2 of 3, which is a good percentage anytime! GO PADRES!

Quote from fenn68 on April 11, 2025, 12:54 pmUnderstand I don't draw any conclusions based on 13 games at the start of the season (maybe at the 30 game point) but there are some preliminary observations that suggest close watching in the coming homestead as they may lead to roster moves.
First consider the first 7 games were at PETCO and the last 6 were AWAY ... and remember different opponents / weather can create some misleading stats in the short run.
Consider the following for first seven (HOME) vs last six (AWAY) ... 100 is "average" wRC+:
Gurriel: 18 ... -37
Heyward: 19 ... 41
Lockridge: 335 ... -9
Sheets: 242 ... -34
(left off Iglesias, Diaz, and Maldonado since no logical replacements and the "core 6" are OK).
Clearly we have seen nothing out of Gurriel or Heyward but the drop-off from both Lockridge and Sheets is concerning. If all four coupled with the expected below average production out of the catcher slot continue the AWAY performance, the Padres have a real problem in the bottom third of the line-up.
Also, watch Arraez (even if he will play no matter what) ... his first 7 (HOME) at 26 then the last 6 (AWAY) 178. Maybe not as extreme (but noteworthy) but that below average HOME and above average AWAY was the pattern in 2024 as a Padre.
Might be a consideration for Preller in his decision to re-sign Arraez as a FA after the season ... after considering "price" and alternatives.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 11, 2025, 1:25 pmIt's weird that Petco would affect Arraez much.
As a line drive hitter it shouldn't make much difference.
I do think the cold in Chi affected some guys...obv. not Arraez though.

Quote from BoosterSD on April 11, 2025, 2:23 pmI saw a stat on one of the early games, that Arraez starts the season slow. Almost always an 0-15ish start. So, probably not that relevant that the slow start was at Petco, sounds like he starts slow no matter what.
