Bye Bye Balsley!
Quote from TatisJr on November 8, 2019, 10:27 amMan... tough news. According to Acee it was Balsleys choice. His son is going to play for San Diego State and wanted a less demanding schedule. Bals will stick with the organization and work with minor league pitchers. At least the guru will still be helping the Pads youngsters. Thank you for all the great years Balsley! There wasn’t anyone better.

That's good news.
That we aren't losing him altogether and that our prospects may benefit even more now.

This is actually a MASSIVE silver lining... might be able to spread the wealth a little more when it benefits guys even more if he's able to connect with those younger guys. Really depends how much time he spends on it. The other thing is he's there for the extremely experienced Rothschild to consult with. Obviously L.R. will have his own way of doing things, but he's of similar experience / stature to Balsley... not like a young guy who doesn't want the old "guru" making suggestions over his shoulder... should welcome & seek out input from Balsley.
This could be a win-win. Like Rothschild's experience. Impressed with the smoke & mirrors aspect of NYY rotations last few years, although supported by insane elite top $ bullpen & mega-offense. Better than league ERA impressive despite payroll given playing in home bandbox & tough AL East.

Quote from fenn68 on November 8, 2019, 10:50 amBalsley has earned the right to make the call on stepping back into a less demanding role ... so should be plus for the organization.
Should be active in ST ... and with all the video tech available can keep tabs on the key arms ... pass comments to the minor league pitching coaches ... do site visits as warranted. Less travel ... more family time.
As for Rothschild ? But his long run with the NYY is a good sign.
