Just a benchmark for next off season when both King and Cease are FA.
Red Sox signs Garrett Crochet to a 6 year / $170MM extension (with some additional incentives). That is just over $28MM AAV for 1 Arbitration year and 5 FA years. Crochet is 25 years old.
Since no arbitration year will be involved with King or Cease ... both may be asking around $30MM AAV but older so maybe 4 or 5 year deals.
A good chance the Padres let both go and focus on resigning Arraez (younger and a position player with less injury risk) at a lower price point while keeping some powder dry to try to extend Merrill with a Tatis type contract.

The Dodgers acquired speedy outfielder Esteury Ruiz, who set an American League rookie record with 67 stolen bases in 2023, from the A's in exchange for Minor League right-hander Carlos Duran on Wednesday.

Tanner Scott with a closer's Maddux last night: three pitches.
Harper singled, Bohm grounded into a double play, Kepler flied out.
He's the fifth pitcher since 1988 to get a three-out save on three pitches, so it's much rarer than a Maddux.

Actually, makes Bogaerts deal look better as well. Vlad Jr. will be a dimensional DH in 4 years, before we even think about Bogaerts being relegated to 2B or 1B.
