It really is unbelievable. Mize had basically matched Skubal's production with Detroit. He looked like the second best starter on the market. I genuinely thought he would slot in as our #2 starter. His command has completely disappeared with us. Somehow he's been even worse than the collection of bums he was supposed to replace. It makes me wonder if he's trying to pitch through something and messed up his mechanics trying to compensate. Otherwise it's hard to believe how hard he has fallen off. He's gone from looking like a guy who might have a shot at a 100m deal to a guy who should be left off the postseason roster.

The offense had opportunities but couldn't cash in. Out hit the snakes 10-8 yet were outscored 11-4.

Mize confirmed after the game that the ankle has been bothering him. He tried to grind it out when he shouldn't have. Acee seems to think they'll put him on the IL to add another arm to cover some innings on Sunday. His season is almost certainly over.

Looking back on it he had a bad first start coming off of a 10 day layoff between starts. Then he rebounded with 2 pretty strong starts. He got off to a bad start in the next game, hurt the ankle and hasn't looked right since. Maybe it is just some tough luck with a freakish injury.
