The Padres are riding high after winning the series over the Dodgers and clinching a playoff berth. They enter the final series of the regular season with an opportunity to secure home field advantage.
They could do that on Friday with a win, a Phillies loss to the Rays and the Cubs losing both games to the Red Sox in a double header.
Mize is scheduled to go today. But, with Monday off they can start Buehler today and Mize tomorrow, which would be better. Vasquez could start on Sunday, so King can start game 1 of the wild card with Pivetta and Buehler to follow.
If the Padres do secure home field advantage tonight on Friday, winning the final two games would be moot and Stammen would have plenty of options.

Casey Mize better figure out how to pitch before he goes out to the mound tonight. If he gets hit early, these will be the last innings he pitches as a San Diego Padre.

The Cubs lost the first game of the double header. Game 2 is still scoreless. I just saw that game 3 is going to be played on Sunday in Tampa Bay because of the weather concerns in Boston. If we end up playing the Cubs that should only help our chances.
The UT certainly made it seem like Sheets would be back today. That doesn't seem to be the case with lineups out.

The Padres were dealt the right cards. The Cubs lost both games of their double header and the Phillies lost. If the Padres win tonight, they will clinch home field advantage most likely hosting the Cubs

Really rather frustrating that we have a chance to get home field for the 1st round and we're p***ing it away by leaving this stiff in.
We REALLY could use home field if we want to have any chance.
