This is the Padres final homestand before the All-Star break playing the Dbacks and then the Blue Jays. Like the Padres, the Dbacks pitching is struggling. But, the Dbacks offense will be tough. This will be the first time this season that the Padres will play the Dbacks in the states.
Game 2 was Vazquez's spot, but he is on the IL as is Giolito, Pivetta, and Waldron. Sears and Canning are already in the rotation. So, who starts? Marquez? Maybe a BP game or a pitcher from Triple-A El Paso?

Brito was supposed to start on Saturday, but they ended up calling up Yost to make the start instead. I haven't seen anything about an injury. I think Brito may finally be getting the call on Tuesday.

Brito is in the Padres' clubhouse.

Looks like someone used AI to do the lineup intros for the DBacks. I'm at the game and one of their players was shown in a Rockies hat.

The 6 remaining AZ/TOR games are critical as the Padres fall 4 games under .500 and with a lot of teams between them and a playoff slot.
Was hoping the Padres would turn the corner in the second half ... looks as though they did but it was the wrong corner and are heading in the wrong direction (1-9 in the last 10).
Teased by the offense improving ... but better is not good playoff quality. Meanwhile the pitching that kept the Padres close early in the season has collapsed and Padres for the past few weeks are dead last with only King being "OK" (ERA under 4) but everyone else below average and no realistic improvement on the horizon for 4 SP roles.
The All-Star break may be the point where Preller, the front office, and the owners (old/new) sit down and determine the trade deadline strategy. At this point hard to envision being a buyer leaving the question being how aggressive a seller will they be? See not short or long term value of standing pat.
