Yes he does and of the three I think he has the best control...there is a big difference between "Throwers" and "Pitchers"
I gotta give AJ Preller and his scouting department huge props in the way they have collected so much young pitching talent. It is my hope that once the Padres get to the position of ALWAYS being in contention for the NL West, NL Pennant and or/ Wild Card that it never becomes a situation of rebuild but rather one of just RELOAD
Go Pads !!!!

Quote from MrPadre19 on July 13, 2019, 3:33 pmAnother reason if someone(Braves,RedSox,etc) offers a good package we should trade Yates.
We can restock the Pen easier than we can fix CF.

Quote from fenn68 on July 13, 2019, 6:49 pmAs I recall the Padres have two BIG guys ... Valdez (AA) and Guerrero (A+) ... who can also tickle the 100 MPH level ... both still need to improve control but never know when that kick in (if it does) but the big arm is a pretty good base to work off.

Quote from fenn68 on July 13, 2019, 6:55 pmAgree on Yates going in "a good deal" ... not sure what that looks like IF they can't swing a deal for Atlanta for either Pache or Waters for CF. Don't want to move him now for just farm fodder.
RP / closer has a lot of potential options near term with the big arms of Wingenter, Munoz, Baez, and potentially Lamet plus some potential with Diaz and Wilson ... not even counting a minor league SP or two shifting to the pen ... don't know who will emerge but the options are there for success.

Quote from LynchMob on July 30, 2019, 2:05 pmSeems like his stock is going up ... significantly.
Maybe still too young / inexperienced to be closer next year?
But if he can get a little more control and stay healthy ... he's headed to be elite ... sweet!

Not sure about next year but clearly at some point targeted as the closer.
May take a year or two to build him up to the required innings and consecutive appearances to insert him into that role. He is only 20 and has not pitched that may inning in any minor league season (some injury history). Don't think they want to blow out that young arm at this point ... just introducing him to appearing in back to back games in non-stress situations is a step.
If Yates stays, Munoz might move up to a more consistent 7th-8th inning role in 2020 and then hopefully to closer in 2021.

Munoz threw a 102.8 mph fastball to Ryan McMahon, who was late and managed to foul it into the left-field seats. That's the hardest pitch Statcast has ever tracked from a Padres pitcher. (Munoz has thrown each of the top 44.)
