Only 4 Padres on the initial Peoria Javelina roster ...

I can see the placement logic for Rodriguez (missed a lot of the season) and Potts / Reed (making a big jump to AA) but not sure about Allen who played a full load successfully in AA as a big catcher .. seemed to wear down a bit in the second half ... not sure that some additional "rest" would benefit him more.
However, just speculation:
1. could they want to work him in non-catching roles for developing his versatility (e.g.1B / 3B / OF)? He seems to have that big LHH bat that would be useful in the ML. AAA next season, should be on the 40 man .... the C call-up if Hedges / Mejia gets hurt.
2. bigger speculation ... with Hedges (elite defense), Mejia (top level prospect in ML), and Allen next season being one level away .... could Preller be giving himself some options in dealing Hedges or Mejia for some top ML talent (SP?) ... filler back up in 2019 and Allen up as the #2 catcher late 2019 or 2020. Doubt Allen would get much in any trade except as the secondary piece in a multi-player deal.

Right-hander Miguel Diaz will join the Padres' contingent in the Arizona Fall League this year, manager Andy Green divulged on Wednesday.

Also RHP Dauris Valdez and LHP Travis Radke are currently on the Peoria roster.

Austin Allen and Hudson Potts both went 1-for-4 with a walk in the opener ... Potts made an error ...

Not sure where minorleagueball pulled their list from, but there are some errors:
Bryan Valdez isn't a Padres minor leaguer. I believe he's in the DBacks system.
Blinger Perez has not joined a team in Venezuela yet, nor will Jorge Leo be in LMP.
