2yrs of Lindor vs 1 yr of Betts

Teams aren't stupid. We cannot make up for lack of talent quality with more quantity. Trading for a star hurts both sides, that's how you know it is a good trade. If you don't care about losing Naylor, Arias and Lauer then they don't care about getting them. We have our infield set. If we are going to bring somebody in it needs to be an outfielder. Tatis is not going to move to 2B or the outfield. It would cost him over $100 million on his next contract. He knows that very well. If we try to force him, we can forget about him ever re-signing with us. Lindor is a square peg for a round hole. SS is the only position on this team that everyone is absolutely 100%  happy with.

No way the Padres pay the steep price for two years of Lindor. Love Lindor, but there just isn’t a fit with Padres, his FA clock and like Jason said Tatis isn’t switching positions anytime soon. He’s going to be the Padre shortstop for years to come. I’m interested to see what one year of Mookie would cost. I imagine AJP will be checking in with Boston. If AJP can pry him away without giving up one of his top guys I could see him being aggressive. Betts would more than fill a need and seems to be in the type of a player AJP covets. If he walks in a year Padres could collect a top draft pick. 2020 lineup with Tatis, Betts, Machado would definitely put some fear in opposing pitchers.

Besides which, against LH pitchers with Betts in RF, Margot in CF and Renfroe in LF our outfield defense would be unmatched.
