Any chance we could lure Spencer Jones away from the Yankees?

I expect Bellinger to get some play at 1B but they currently have Judge/Bellinger/Grisham/Dominguez/Jones/Cabrera/Stanton/Caballero/Rosario

That's some OF depth.

Grisham only signed for one season....but still

Every indication he is Joey Gallo 2.0.

Had a 35% strikeout rate in the minors last season which in my mind overshadows his 35 HR. Think he may really struggle vs ML pitching but if he did survive it would be in a power hitter friendly park ... which is not PETCO or most of the NL West parks.

Padres could land him but probably a vast overpay for what he could do in SD. Not a big Padre need for a poor hitting LHH who is an OF/DH even with his power potential

Not a fan of K machines but if he plays good defense and can keep a .350+ OBP......?

I'm sure there are other options....just seems like NYY need to trade an OF

Until Preller lands another 1B/2B option, wonder if Padres go Cronenworth (2B) and Song (1B) OR reverse Song (2B) and Cronenworth (1B)?

I have Sheets penciled in at DH (has played very little 1B and a question about his defense).

We know Cronenworth defensively can handle either position. Song on the other hand was primarily a 3B in Korea with some time at 2B and a little time at 1B. Have to evaluate Song at 2B and 1B during the spring but if defense is important ... my concern on Song would be his range at 2B and the ability to turn the double play. So, maybe my preference is seeing him at 1B.

Plus, my bias, is not to bounce a player back and forth ... so locking in Cronenworth at 2B works (he plays most games) and it may be easier to get a RHH complement for Song as a 1B.

Remember they have non-roster Miranda and Solak who COULD make the roster as a platoon 1B. Still, most likely Preller adds to fill that need.

I think that Fenn had mentioned something about working a deal with the NYY. After reading a story on CBS, I am thinking that could be a good option. In the story they mentioned that NYY needs to decide on what to do with Dominguez, add a RP or two, and a RHH or two. Not to mention that Cole and Rendon will start the season on the IL.

SD needs a better back up C, needs a DH bat (RH if possible), another SP, and needs to shed salary.

Could something be built around Dominguez and Estrada?

NYY gets Estrada, Matsui, Laureano, and Campusano and SD gets Dominguez, Escarra, and a SP close to ML ready.

And if the two teams wanted to get even crazier, work Pivetta into the mix?

Not sure the Padres would want to deal Laureano (starting LF) for another LF and use trade chips (Estrada) then end up with still looking for a 9th bat and one less key trade chip. On the NYY side, taking Laureano makes little sense ... add payroll for a bench piece.

Yeh, Dominguez has 5 years control at minimum vs Laureano only 1 and costs $6.5 MM more but not sure Dominguez will be better for 2026.

Agree something might work on a Dominguez - Estrada deal but the "other players" might have to be all pitchers. Think NYY value Dominguez more than Estrada.

Apparently the Yankees aren't completely sold on Dominguez either or they wouldn't have re-signed Grisham AND Bellinger.

Bellinger sure...but Dominguez is supposed to be their CF of the future.

Grisham had a good year....but at $22 mil for one year you'd think they would have used that $ elsewhere if they thought "The Martian" was ready now

Not sure the NYY expected Grisham to take the QO ,,, maybe the plan backfired when he accepted. So Grisham is gone for 2027 in all likelihood.

Also not sure Dominguez' defense lived up to the hype when he started ... so maybe not the CF of the future (maybe it goes to Jones or Bellinger) and he is in a corner.

Still 5 years control and currently at league minimum for a player who now is at least a good hitter / starting OF probably carries a lot of trade value in the NYY minds. Then there is still the upside.

Still see a base of Estrada (4 years control / now league minimum) for Dominguez with the NYY holding out for maybe another pitcher they could tuck in the minors. We can have our bias on relative quality of each but guessing 5 years of a starting OF has some core superior value than 4 years of a RP (even if projected as a closer at some point).

Side: can't see getting all that much in return for Laureano given his only one year control / $6.5MM ... he has more value playing for the Padres in 2026 than any return ... especially when the Padres are looking to add a 9th hitter even with him.

Yanks got a bullpen arm.

AJ sleeping at the wheel?

I don't think this RP even makes the NYY ... he had an ERA over 7 last year and a negative WAR. On the other side the 1B who went to COLO slid in as #29 on COLO top prospects.

No idea why this trade was made.
