Maybe more players involved but a BASE deal of Miller and Cronenworth to Detroit for Skubal (1 year / $18MM) ... so in 2026 maybe a "push" on dollars. Guessing some prospects go both ways with some upside coming to the Padres. This is the "all in" for 2026 thinking as the Padres roster ages and with the specter of a work stoppage in 2027 plus a pending team sale.

Probably other similar scenarios with maybe a similar Padres offer but a set for 4-5 returning players (low cost / long control) with a few who will step in in 2026 and at least one "impact". Orioles have a need for a closer and have a ton of top prospects ...

Will be a surprise no matter.

I could see him moving Laureano for pitching and renewing his pursuit of Jarren Duran or Steven Kwan too. If they aren't going to convert any relievers I would expect he'll trade at least one too. We'll see how it all plays out. I think we see multiple trades.

If I am moving Miller, it is to unload Bogaerts contract. Its going to age worse than Crones, and I would rather keep the LH bat over the RH bat in Bogaerts.

And since its rumored that the Tigers are in on Bregman, its not a stretch that they could use Bogaerts at 3B.

Rule 5 draft (ML phase) with a whimper. Padres passed and lost no one. Actually not very many teams decided to participate.

Maybe (hopefully in my view) the Rule 5 draft gets phased out in the new CBA eliminating the useless protection on the 40 man roster of players not projected to help the team in the coming year.

In the minor league phase ... Padres also passed but did lose two somewhat no description players ... Ortiz (3B) and Huizi (RP).

Not sure "quiet" is the word ... maybe no big move but he has (directly or indirectly) been the source of a lot of rumor / discussion.
