It's growing on me. He seems to be well respected at all levels of the organization. I've seen Musgrove and a few others express excitement over his hiring. I think he could end up being like a new school version of Shildt.

It’s a little strange that we’re so close to our first championship and they’re turning this roster, with a wide open window, to a first time manager who’s never coached at any level.
Which makes me believe he won’t be making a lot of the decisions the first year or so…. I guess ownership/Preller will be even more involved…at least initially.Also Niebla even more highly involved in bullpen usage decisions.

Seems in recent years MLB has moved away from managers who make all the decisions to managers who first effectively handle players and clubhouse … let coaches do their thing (Neibla) … and accept/ work with the analytics department.
That being the model … Stammen should fit since as a player he was a major factor for a positive clubhouse and has evolved as part of the front office.
Seems they may be looking for adding a coach that relates to the Latin players.

Tom Krasovic brought up what I thought was an interesting point about the Stammen hire in a column for the UT. The highest paid managers in the game are making about 8m. Shildt was making 2. Stammen will presumably make less than that. On a team that may already be close to it's payroll ceiling maybe that gives them a little extra wiggle room to invest in players.

I know Rodriguez and Leiper left and Niebla will remain, but is Stammen looking to replace Esposito and others? I hadn't heard. It makes sense that Esposito would leave and if so, Hundley might actually be a good get for bench coach.

Possibly Carlos Hernandez, Latin, been broadcasting the team for years, and was on the 98 WS Team.

How about a trade where we acquire Abrams and Gore, move Bogaerts to 1B, and have an INF of Machado, Abrams, Crone, and Bogaerts. Sheets can spell Bogaerts at 1B a couple times a week, and DH the other times.
