bit surprised Bachar was DFA … a decent RP … over someone such as Azocar who seems well out of favor. Good chance Bachar is claimed.

The timing of adding (and optioning) Lockridge must have to do with making him eligible for  the playoffs in case of injury. Speedy, good defense CF but not much of a hitter … sort of a Johnson 2.0. Insurance / depth move? He would have been Rule 5 eligible this winter I believe.

Does give the options … but with Tatis and Kim returning and going back to 13 position players … not sure who will be left to remove from the active roster … 3 of the current set already have to be dropped, so a 4th?

Likely the first three off … McCoy, Campusano, and either Johnson or Wade. So the 4th would likely be Johnson or Wade for Lockridge who has zero ML experience then push him into a critical playoff spot.

Note he was signed on Aug 31 … so is eligible for post-season play.

AZ has 1 less loss than SD while ATL has 1 more loss … all sitting in WC slots. The concern is a hot NYM who are only 3 losses greater than SD … and that is in striking distance and should cause some concern. Padres of course need to win but one of AZ, ATL, or NYM needs to struggle … don’t care who.

One small plus is that since the other teams have more games to play … more chances to add on to their loss total … good for SD.

The Mets have to plays PHI twice, ATL and MIL, those are 13 really tough games, If the Padres go 12-11, they would have to go 17-8 to catch them up.

For the position players, Profar has fallen back with the challenge of the schedule and some of the others look like they need time off their feet, like Bogaerts, Machado and Cronenworth; in fact, Merrill could use an off day to keep him from burning out.  Be glad when we get Tatis and Kim back in the line-up to energize that group and give us some more speed on the base paths plus what each is capable of doing defensively; further, I think Diaz will help more than we probably expect with the catching chores down the line - not bad to have your #3 catcher as a former recent All-star and did you know that the Padres can put 8 position players in the field that were All-Stars?

We don’t “need” the Mets to lose….we can just keep winning.Mets and Braves have a 3 game series in the last week of the season.
