Quote from BoosterSD on November 8, 2024, 11:17 amAccording to MLBTR, Niebla is close to signing an extension with SD as well. It will be good to have him back in the fold for the next couple of seasons as well.

Quote from Randy Manese on November 9, 2024, 7:41 amI'd be very surprised if the posting/signing of Sasaki is before the 15 December deadline - money wise, it would not be advantageous to either party. So, if it is 15 January 2025 the waiting and anxiety builds for the Padres who really need Sasaki to help offset the loss of Musgrove for 2025. LA likely has a huge advantage with Ohtani and Yamamoto, but I have a feeling Sasaki is his own man and wants to show he can be just as successful in his own right with another team. If he truly is close to Darvish, he has to have been impressed by the way the Padres handled Darvish personal issue this past season. Cross your fingers and hang on - going to be so many rumors until you hear it from Roki Sasaki himself. GO PADRES!

Could the recent extension of Niebla prove big in helping land Sasaki? We have seen him help pitchers in both CLE and SD. Both in harnessing stuff and transitioning from RP to SP.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 9, 2024, 3:11 pmI’m guessing it’s 45% LA,45% SD,10% another team.
We need the baseball Gods to throw us a bone!
Sign Sasaki…trade for Crochet
Cease/Crochet/King/Darvish/Sasaki
We would definitely have a rotation to compete with anyone….after ‘24 you extend King, let Cease go and Joe replaces Cease in the rotation.

Two things, about this idea.
- You would need a 6th starter with Sasaki in the rotation. Would still like Perez if possible, plus Waldron and Vasquez should still be in the picture IMO.
- I dont know if we have the pieces to get Crochet. Especially without including DeVries.

Quote from BoosterSD on November 9, 2024, 3:25 pmThinking about the last season and the performance of both Waldron and Vasquez.
Waldron at times was our best SP. He carried the team for what almost two months. So question. Did the league figure him out, is that just the results of a knuckleballer, or did he just get tired pitching so much?
Vasquez, I give a lot of credit for his last performance of the year against AZ. 6 IP with one hit and no runs, against a team that was fighting for its playoff life. Not to mention one of the best hitting teams in ML last season and in AZ which is a hitters paradise.
I think both will get a lot of chances in ST to show how they progress and how they will help SD in 2025.

Quote from ultratvfan on November 9, 2024, 5:24 pmSaturday’s news that Roki Sasaki would be posted by the Chiba Lotte Marines sent shockwaves -- and excitement -- throughout Major League Baseball, as clubs began to think about their prospects of landing the 23-year-old right-hander.
But unlike last year’s free-agent sweepstakes that saw Yoshinobu Yamamoto sign for $325 million with the Dodgers, the race for Sasaki will not end with a nine-figure contract, which makes for a fascinating Hot Stove storyline.
...
Sasaki forged a close relationship with Padres pitcher Yu Darvish at the last World Baseball Classic, which could give San Diego an edge in its recruiting pitch.
