2024-25 Offseason Talk

According to this San Diego has two players lined up to be signed to big deals. Should we be worried that there aren’t any listed for the Dodgers? Do they already know something we don’t know? Do they normally not dip their toes in the international market?

On the positive sign he didn't sign yesterday while he was in LA.

But,sounds like it's still a  toss up for him and I was hoping he had already chose SD and was just "going through the motions" to make it appear there was no deal already in place.

Any chance other GM's around the league would "help us" get him?

Prefer giving us their $?

Can't imagine SF wants Roki in LA.

Probably no other team "wants" that to happen.

I would guess (especially NL teams) would prefer SD win Sasaki BUT it comes down to what makes their organization the strongest ... so trade pool money for the best return.

From what I saw the LAD had a couple of top prospects lined up who have now signed with other teams (for more than what was though to be the LAD handshake deal) ... LAD basically told them to look for other options.

LAD usually play in the international market extensively .. so that action (and no reported signings) suggest they feel they are really in play for Sasaki.

I guess the next point of interest is what the LAD can get in additional bonus money (need $1MM just to be equal to SD) and who they have to give up to add that. Then how do the react IF Preller makes deals to add to the SD allocation. That back and forth has the potential to take the final decision late into next week ... unless one bidder just tells them their offer is final.

There's no way this is coming down to who can offer the most signing bonus is it?

I mean....is it really 50/50 in Rokis' mind and the difference of $1 mil would make his decision for him?

Sounds off.

I find it hard to believe his choice will come down to the amount of the signing bonus.

So if the dodgers really are trying to add to their Pool that is NOT a good sign.

Either he still hasn't decided or he told LA to get more $ and he'll sign.

Ugh....ready for it to be over.....

How much do you think some of our prospects like pitchers Brenden Nett, Isaiah Lowe, or Henry Baez get us in international signing pool money?  According to Baseball America Nett is our #6 prospect/MLB #20, Lowe is BA #9/MLB #8, Baez is not in the top 10 for BA/#7 MLB.  Could a team that wasn't going to spend all of their international pool money anyway, be willing to trade for a more developed prospect, it would be like getting that more developed prospect for free.  $500,000, $1,000,000, more or less?  Would that make a difference to Saski and his agent?

I don't believe it would take prospects of that caliber just for allocation of funds.

Of course, right now everyone knows what's up and it may cost more at this point because of the situation.

But I still think it's more likely guys in the 15-20 range.

Am I wrong in thinking this?

I was thinking in a different direction ... since the Padres also want to reduce payroll maybe the focus on a trade for a player they already targeted for trading. Maybe Suarez ($10MM off the books if dealt) for a return of a prospect plus he  bonus pool allocation.

A team like BALT has a the highest allocation (just over $7MM) ... wants to contend in 2025 ... looking for a RHRP (backed out of the Hoffman deal who would have been owed more than Suarez). Would it benefit both teams for dealing Suarez to BALT for $3MM (max) allocation (leaving BALT with still $4MM) and maybe a decent player?

ATL could be in a similar mood with an allocation sitting at $6.2MM.

Padre may have an advantage IF they are willing to trade legit ML pieces ... and if we accept the need to lower the net payroll ... that seems a fair strategy.

Think that would be true if just in the $250-500K range but if they need to push it up into the millions and have to battle the LAD offer might be a lot more since not sure all teams are selling big chunks (if anything).

Might also ... to get the max needed ... require multiple deals for multiple prospects.

IF the deals end up getting Sasaki ... no issue in moving the Nett's etc ... but if not would be a big hurt.

Trading an expensive 26 man guy I get....that may work.

Has anyone heard anything about SD actually trying to make trades?

I did see a report that LA was...but nothing on SD.

Again...not a great sign.

The fact LA "is" working deals means they are definitely still in....are we?

Actually I did find this......https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/01/dodgers-having-exploratory-talks-about-trading-for-intl-bonus-pool-funds.html

So again...if SD and LA are both trying to get more $...is that really what it's come down too?
