That could work as a test given how poorly Nola is hitting. Wonder what the Padres' scouting department really thinks of Severino ... he came up in WASH as a plus defender but has declined defensively in BALT and MILW ... never much of a hitter BUT right now likely better than Nola. Has hit the IL in EP once or twice  ... so some concern there. A ML veteran who had to sign a minor league deal always give me pause.

I guess the same question on Nola ... what do the Padres think of him and how are they assessing his offensive problems? Do they see it as a mechanical issue or (as I think) in is the progression of a 33 year old catcher who has been on a declining trend every year since in SEA (although did not expect his much of a decline).

Given the questions about all the catching options ... for now need to retain them all for 2023 baring a trade ... then regroup for 2024 with likely Campusano being groomed for #1 unless they add a #1 type.

2. $295.0 ... NYY currently 23-18 (8th best but still 4th in AL East)

Not a get what you pay for set of results, so far ... on the flip side based on best records:

1. $73.1 ... TB currently 30-11 (best record in MLB)
2. $60.8 ... BALT currently 26-14 (2nd best)
3. $203.0 ... ATL currently 25-14 (3rd best)

Somehow TB is always in the mix with a low payroll ... hard to figure. At the other end, the Mets fans must be really frustrated with what Cohen spent for this result ... and NY fans are not all the forgiving.

I believe they can only add a player to the 60 day IL if they need that 40 man roster slot for a non-roster add to the 40 man. Can’t make the move just to have an open 40 man slot for the future.

So it's safe to assume that add will be a C.. cant go with just Sully and Nola on the 40..right?

Wonder if Bo Naylor is available?

Otherwise Compete with LAA for Torrens or (my preference) add Severino to 40 if not 26
