Padres just committed $24M to Wacha and no one thinks he will make the team?

Sorry just noticed the dates from before the signing.

Starters- Darvish, Snell, Musgrove, Wacha, Martinez, Lugo

Bullpen- Hader, Suarez, Garcia, Pomeranz, Hill, Wilson, Font

Catchers- Campusano, Nola

Infielders- Machado, Bogaerts, Cronenworth, Kim

Outfielders- Soto, Grisham, Tatis, Engel, Dahl

DH- Cruz (OF/1B)/Carpenter (INF/OF)

Preller will have to find a way to find keep the Rule 5 selection of the LHRP Lopez.  Trade or send $ to TB.  Is there a limit to how many pitchers a team can carry?  Can a team go with 14 pitchers and only 12 position players?  That might be possible to keep Lopez for the first 20 games while Tatis is finishing his PED suspension.

I'm so pumped for the highest expectation team since '98 (which worked out and brought us Petco Park after the many delays caused by the penis Henderson/I think was his name) and '21 (which was a bust with Tingler at the helm) plus '22 (which worked out and could have been truly special if Tatis had taken care of himself properly).  Go Pads!

Not anymore, gotta be an even split 13 and 13 now.

With the 2023 season about 6 weeks away, here are some reachable round number career milestones.  Some are fairly easy - Snell needs just 11 K's to reach 1000 and Kim needs 9 runs to have scored 700 (KBO+MLB) - others are going to be more challenging.  Here's the list:  Darvish 200 Wins (JBL + MLB)- needs 12; Machado 300 Hrs-needs 17; Musgrove 1000 K's-148 away; Hader 150 Sv-needs 18; Wacha 1100 K's-needs 79;Tatis 100 HRs-needs 19; Carpenter 800 runs scored-needs 20;Soto 400 RBIs-needs 26 & 500 runs scored-needs 70; Cronenworth 200 RBIs-needs 21; Kim 700 RBIs (KBO+MLB)-needs 32; Cruz 1100 runs scored-needs 19; Bogaerts 1500 hits-needs 90 & 500 runs scored-needs 48 & 700 RBIs-needs 17; Grisham 200 runs scored-needs 15 & 200 RBIs-needs 35; Nola 300 hits - needs 58; and finally Pomeranz 50 wins - needs just 2 but this may be hardest to get!

Who will reach his milestone(s) first?  Doesn't really matter only that they do and beyond!  GO PADRES!

Snell ..likely 1st.. he can do that his 1st start but 💯 by his 2nd

Come on be bold. Nelson Cruz only needs 41 HRs to get to 500. 🤣

CBS sports web page is ranking SD as the third best offense for 2023, behind ATL #1, and HOU #2, and just ahead of TOR at #4. They have the LAD ranked #6.

Do you think that is a fair assessment of where SD offense ranks? Or, should it be higher or lower?

Really a lot of this depends on Soto, Tatis and the DH duo.

I think the key to our offense is Grisham and Kim.

I think it's a pretty safe bet what we get out of the "Big Four" and I think Cronenworth bounces back some.

Tatis has come back strong every time he's come back from injury....yes this was a full season but at his age and skill level I'm not worried.

Same with Soto.He wasn't great since the trade but to think he's the guy we saw for 2 months after the trade instead of the guy we saw for 3 years is before it is just crazy.....esp. at his age.

Cruz/Carpenter have to be better than Bell was for us.

We have a top 5 offense easy...maybe #1.

Not a single worry about our bullpen either.

Back of the rotation?

Some worry but not much considering the depth we have....someone's gonna step up.

I think our offense has both a very high floor and a ceiling that will be determined by a number of if's. Manny, Soto, Bogaerts and Cronenworth form a great core. If Tatis comes back at the same level it gets stronger. If the changes Carpenter made keep working it gets stronger. If Cruz bounces back with his eyes fixed it gets stronger. If Grisham bounces back it gets stronger. If Kim keeps getting better it gets stronger. If Campusano hits it gets stronger.

I think our offense will be very good. If enough of those if's work out in our favor it could be great.
