San Diego Padres Daily Farm Report: March 31

Left-hander Jay Groome narrowly missed making the big league roster, but as a consolation prize, he got the opening night nod for the Chihuahuas. The big lefty pitched much better than his line indicated. In the third inning, he allowed two runs on four consecutive singles – none of which were hit harder than 76 mph. He walked one and struck out five. He generated a game-high 11 swings and misses and showed a sharp slider. He was sitting in the high-80s with his fastball out of the gate but topped out at 93 mph several times, per Baseball Savant.

San Diego Padres Daily Farm Report: April 4

Hard-throwing Angel Felipe closed the game in the ninth, earning his first save of the year. Felipe pitched around an error and struck out a pair of hitters while topping out at 97 mph. The former Ray is an intriguing arm who has the stuff to be an impact pitcher in the late innings. He’s struck out five of the seven hitters he has faced to start the 2023 campaign.

Today's starter: El Paso: Joe Musgrove (rehab)

I'm sure some, if not most, of y'all know this guy ... but this was (good) news for me today ... from DFR ...

As El Paso manager Philip Wellman said in his interview with John ConniffYorman Rodriguez may be a man without a position but he can hit. That sentiment rang true Tuesday as the 25-year-old singled twice and doubled to raise his average to .350. Last season, Rodriguez hit a career-high 15 homers with the Missions. The power isn’t necessarily going to be part of his game but he makes consistent, hard contact. In 70 plate appearances, he’s struck out just six times.

... because the big club needs HITTERS!

From today's DFR ...

Yorman Rodriguez is seeing increased playing time behind the plate due to the promotion of Brett Sullivan to the Padres, and he made the most of it tonight, with three hits, including a double. Rodriguez, a 25-year-old catcher by trade who is still in many ways searching for his defensive home, is batting .375 with a .985 OPS in 72 at-bats in 2023 and holds a career .311 average and .794 OPS in 1,957 at-bats.
