2022 LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE STORM

PreviousPage 2 of 3Next

These seem to be the kids to watch at Lake Elsinore ... from today's DFR ...

Playing in just his second game of full-season ball, outfielder Jakob Marsee hit in the lead-off spot and reached base four times.  He had two hits, two walks, and stole a base — his second in as many nights. The Padres selected Marsee in the seventh round. The former Central Michigan star was batting .212/.447/.303 in the ACL before his promotion. … It seems like every writer at MadFriars has to echo the statement at least once a week: Marcos Castañon is good at baseball.  Castañon hit his 21st home run of the season and drew three walks. With a pair of RBI, Castañon now has 80 on the season.  Castañon is quietly playing at his best with runners in scoring position.  With a runner on second this year, Castañon is hitting .351/.500/622 on the season. … Shortstop Jackson Merrill moved down to second in the order and delivered a three-hit game – all singles – and scored a pair of runs. Merrill, 19, saw his 10-game hitting streak end on Tuesday night with an 0-for-5 night. Wednesday marked Merrill’s fourth three-hit game of August. The former first-rounder is hitting .316/.381/.487 this month.

Surprised Castanon did not make either the Baseball America or MLB Pipeline top 30 list.  Certainly not a top prospect but seems to deserve at least a place somewhere on the lower end of our top 30.

Watched him play a couple times. I think he can make his way up the top 30.  His fielding at 3B is very good..obviously has raw power to boot..and anyone who hits with RISP is a need in SD (lol).. I see him in our top 20 soon.. and if he has a similar A+/AA season next yr  . Will be top 15 for sure

Really impressive bunch at LE... with CF Zavala... Griffin Doersching ...3B Castanon and obviously SS Merrill...not to mention the few that got promoted to A+ already

Storm go up 1-0 in Game 1 of the semifinals between Lake Elsinore and Inland Empire ... video of both of Doersching's HRs here ...

Doersching finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Top-ranked Padres prospect Jackson Merrill (No. 87 overall) collected a pair of knocks, a walk, one RBI, a run and two stolen bases. Nathan Martorella, the club's 29th-ranked prospect, drove in a pair of runs with a single in the ninth.

On the hill, San Diego's seventh-ranked prospect Victor Lizarraga allowed two runs on three hits and a pair of walks while striking out nine over 5 2/3 frames for Lake Elsinore. Will Geerdes nailed down the save with 3 1/3 hitless innings, walking two and striking out a pair.

I just noticed that Zavala left the game after 1 AB ... why?

Martorella made the top 30 at #29... cant wait for a Doersching top 30 soon.. what a game (1st Pro career postseason game.).Mr Cowboy October oh yeah!

From today's DFR ...

Outfielder Samuel Zavala left the game with what appeared to be an injury to his wrist after his first at-bat. The talented 18-year-old immediately winced after he fouled a ball off, then was removed from the field.

Of course he did!

Because………Padres.

🙄

Got tickets to the game tomorrow night.  Hope to see them clinch the Southern part of the California League with a big win on Thursday.  Sad not going to see Samuel Zavala play but certain he'll start 2023 there.
