Tatis Jr., Urias, Reed make Futures Game roster

Padres appear to be the only team with 3 reps ...

I did not see the game ... but did see this comment at thread at minorleagueball.com ...

most fun: Trammel’s foiled showboating and Buddy Reed all around, particularly when he tracked down that Tatis drive.

Watched most of it, really fun game with the pitch clock mentality. Major leaguers can stuff it.

I watched the game too. Putting the obvious objective to have Tatis and Reed develop from an on-field production standpoint .... I really want to see them arrive in SD because they both seem to possess the "fan appeal" factor (and the Padre fans need some of those player types).

Sure this was an exhibition game but Reed's upbeat, infectious personality shined (fans will just enjoy him) and Tatis clearly came off in an interview as personable and well spoken and as they indicated on the broadcast speaking in excellent English which will allow him to relate comfortably with the English speaking fans AND the Spanish speaking fans. Maybe the hardcore fans don't care about anything but production but for that mid-level fan and casual fan having that positive link to the team via the players is important.

Agree that the pace of the game was great ... making the game much more watchable. The pitch clock in the minor leagues seem to do the trick in changing the behavior of the pitchers / players even though this game did not use it. Add that both teams seem to embrace the excitement of the stolen base which has fallen out of favor in MLB.

Hopefully MLB can get that pitch clock sooner than later and self-absorbed ML pitchers get a kick in their collective butts to care a bit about the health of the game as opposed to themselves.

Most fun I've had watching a game in a long time. Pace of the game, the talent on the field and the personalities. I really hope Buddy Reed can handle AA pitching and his revelations at Elsinore were not just a feel good story.  Tatis looked great (Even while the broadcasters were slobbering and fawning over Hunter Greene, who I still would rank behind Mackenzie Gore.) His infield actions, the arm strength, the lateral movement all were extremely impressive for a kid his size. I can see where his swing can get a little long at times, but the talent is very, very obvious. I think he's the Padres starting shortstop by June of next year as a 20 year old.

1) Not sure that pitch clock really NEEDS to be at the big league level. If players are conditioned with a strict clock in the minors, they'll come up with good habits. The bad habits will fade away from the game as the current big leaguers retire.

2) This was absolutely a blast to watch. I have no idea why MLB doesn't market its farm system way more. That Futures game should be a headliner, not a footnote on Sunday when every other big league team is still playing.

3) It also makes you appreciate even more what the Padres have done the last few year with their own Futures game at the end of every season. I'd love for them to tack on an intra team Home Run Derby, as well. It'd be a blast to see the kids smoke a bunch of lasers into the night.

I love watching Reed play. He has a great smile! And he's good. Agree with you 100%. Can't wait to see Reed, Tatis, and Urias in San Diego. Maybe next season.
