Prospect Watch: The Chihuahuas struggled to keep the Bees off the board and lost big on the road. El Paso has allowed the opposition to score double-digit runs in five of their 10 games this month, and allowed nine runs in one other game. … Veteran big leaguer Marco Gonzales drew the assignment and was bludgeoned by the Salt Lake offense. The former Mariner allowed seven runs in just 1.1 innings on five hits and four walks before departing. The 34-year-old was a long-shot contender for a big league job in the spring, but his 2026 campaign in El Paso has been a rough one. He’s allowed 42 hits in 22 innings, as PCL batters are hitting .400 off of him. In seven starts, he sports a 10.64 ERA in his first extensive action in the minors since the 2017 campaign. … Veteran utilityman Nick Solak connected on his second homer of the year as part of a multi-hit night. After a slow start in April, the former Ranger has had a huge month of May, hitting .455/.500/.667 with a double, a triple, a homer, and just three strikeouts in 36 plate appearances. The 31-year-old has appeared in parts of six big league seasons, most recently with Pittsburgh in 2025. … Lefty Kyle Hart made his relief appearance since being sent down from the big league club late in the game, tossing a scoreless inning with a strikeout. He has worked a pair of scoreless outings since joining El Paso. … Righty Garrett Hawkins also tossed a scoreless inning, striking out one. Hawkins was 93-95 mph with his fastball and mixed in his change and slider to keep the Bees off-balance. After a six-run meltdown on May 1, Hawkins has not allowed a run over his last 5.1 innings, lowering his season ERA from 7.84 to 5.17.

Roster Moves: The Chihuahuas received catcher/first baseman Victor Duarte from the Storm, giving them another depth option behind the dish. Colton Vincent was transferred to the development list for the fourth time this season to open up the roster spot. Former big leaguer Triston McKenzie was also transferred to the development list after struggling most of this season. Lefty Fernando Sanchez was promoted from San Antonio to take his place on the roster.

Missions 8, Wichita Wind Surge 3

Key Statistics: C Ethan Salas 1-for-5, HR (6), 2 RBI; CF Braedon Karpathios 1-for-3, HR (2), 2 RBI; 1B Romeo Sanabria 2-for-3, 2 R, HR (3), 2 RBI; 3B Luis Verdugo 1-for-4, HR (2); RHP Miguel Mendez 2 IP, H, 2 K; RHP Josh Mallitz 2 IP, BB; RHP Johan Moreno IP, 3 K

Prospect Watch: The Missions slammed four homers and held onto a big lead to improve to 6-4 in May. … Ethan Salas only had one hit but he made it count. He slammed yet another homer – his sixth of the year in the victory. The 19-year-old has re-established himself as one of the top prospects in baseball with his power surge at the plate. The prized catcher has three homers this month, and he is carrying a May slash-line of .324/.409/.649. Salas is already outstanding defensively, but with his raw power starting to play in games, he could be a candidate for the big league team at some point this season. … First baseman Romeo Sanabria had one of his best games of the season, as he singled and connected on his third homer. The 23-year-old has had a miserable start to the season, despite nearly doubling his walk-rate from a year ago and maintaining a solid 21.9% strikeout rate. He’s hitting more line drives as well, but still has seen his BABIP drop by 60 points this season, suggesting he’s due for a hot stretch with his current approach. He came into Tuesday’s game sporting a putrid wRC+ of 68. … Braedon Karpathios continued his hot stretch by hitting his second homer of the year. Karpathios has hit safely in four straight games and eight of nine after enduring a miserable April. The Pennsylvania native is hitting .364/.462/.606 with six walks and both of his homers this month. … Righty Miguel Mendez returned from the injured list after a minor neck strain and pitched well in an abbreviated outing. The hard-throwing righty worked a pair of scoreless frames, allowing just one hit. He struck out two. Mendez, who was placed on the injured list on April 24 after a poor start, should build back up over the next few weeks.

Roster Move: Righty Andrew Dalquist was transferred to the development list to open up a roster spot for Mendez.

Cedar Rapids Kernels 3, TinCaps 2

Key Statistics: C Carlos Rodriguez 1-for-4, R, 2B; SS Jonathan Vastine 1-for-2, HR (2), BB; 1B Jack Costello 1-for-4, R, RBI; RHP Matthew Watson, 3.2 IP, 2 H, ER, 4 BB, 2 K; RHP Clark Candiotti (L, 1-2) 1.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, K; LHP Braian Salazar, IP, BB, K

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps made the nearly 400-mile pilgrimage to Iowa and allowed an early lead to slip away. Fort Wayne fell to 16-18 on the season. … Shortstop Jonathan Vastine reached base twice with a walk and connected on his second homer of the season. The former Vanderbilt infielder has played sparingly in his first season after being drafted in the 19th round. In 17 games with Fort Wayne, the 23-year-old has produced a .453 OPS. … Righty Matthew Watson continues to stretch out as a starter, and he worked into the fourth inning before departing. The results were a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, he allowed just one earned run on two hits, but he also issued four free passes. He threw just 34 of his 63 pitches for a strike. The 24-year-old righty has a 3.14 ERA in 14.1 innings this season, his first action after Tommy John surgery in his 2024 draft year. … Lefty Braian Salazar pitched a scoreless frame, issuing a walk while notching one punchout. The lanky lefty has shown good stuff in his tenure, but has generally had poor command. That trend has continued in 2026. He has an excellent 32% strikeout rate, but he’s walked 13% of the hitters he’s faced. Overall, Midwest League batters are hitting just .172 off the southpaw.

Roster Move: The TinCaps and the Storm swapped infielders, with struggling Dylan Grego headed back for another tour of duty in the Cal League. Former NC State and USD infielder Justin DeCriscio was promoted to Fort Wayne after a hot start with Lake Elsinore.

Storm 4, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 3

Key Statistics: 1B Kerrington Cross 2-for-3, BB, RBI; 2B Jose Verdugo 1-for-2, R, 2 BB; LF Conner Westenburg, 2-for-3, R, 3B, RBI; RHP Winyer Chourio (W, 1-0) 5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 10 K; RHP Nick Falter, 2.1 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 2 K; RHP Will Koger (S, 3) 1.2 IP, BB, 2 K

Prospect Watch: The Storm jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on to defeat the Quakes in front of 1,659 at The Diamond for Education Day. The game started at 11:05 am. … Kerrington Cross had another productive day at the plate with two hits, a walk, and an RBI. After hitting just .192 in April, the former University of Cincinnati slugger has come to life in May. He has three multi-hit games this month and he’s hitting .381/.519/.571. … Conner Westenburg continued to produce at the plate as he had a single and a triple, driving in a run as well. He also went from first to third on a sacrifice bunt, and he scored a run. The former McNeese star has generally hit ninth this season and has served as a second leadoff hitter. He has a .955 OPS while batting ninth, and the multi-hit affair raised his overall batting average to .341. … Righty Winyer Chourio made the start and looked dominant at times before running out of gas down the stretch. The young righty struck out a career-high 10 batters, sitting at 95 mph with his fastball. He allowed six hits, with most of the damage coming in the fifth inning. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a bit of a breakout early this season. In 26 innings, Chourio has an excellent 2.42 ERA. He’s struck out 42 batters, and opposing batters are hitting just .185 against him.

ACL Dodgers 8, ACL Padres 7 (8 innings)

Prospect Watch: The ACL Dodgers got the best of the Padres in a game that was scheduled for seven innings but needed eight to decide a winner. … Second baseman Yimy Tovar had a nice night at the plate, as he had a pair of singles to go with two stolen bases. The 20-year-old infielder is off to a nice start at the plate in the desert. In eight games, he’s delivered a .980 OPS with three doubles and a pair of triples. He saw time briefly with the Storm last season, and he could be back in Lake Elsinore soon if he continues to feast on complex league pitching. … Jhony Brito stretched out to three innings Tuesday, but he was hit hard. He allowed four runs on seven hits, including a home run. The former Yankee could move up to a full-season squad next as he builds up from internal brace elbow surgery last spring. … Ty Adcock also made a rehab appearance for the ACL squad, and he struck out a pair in a scoreless inning of work. Adcock signed a big league deal in the off-season and has an option left. He will likely end up in the El Paso bullpen in the coming days.

Roster Move: Veteran big leaguer Alex Verdugo was released by the organization after signing with the Padres late in the spring. Kevin Acee of the Union-Tribune reported that Verdugo recently had season-ending surgery on his shoulder. He did not appear in any minor league games with the Padres organization.
