Prospect Watch: “You’re not the only one with mixed emotions, you’re not the only ship adrift on this ocean” Mick Jagger sang on 1989’s single “Mixed Emotions,” a line that speaks to the outing of Missions lefty Jagger Haynes. The 2020 fifth-rounder – named for the British singer – went five innings and allowed a pair of runs on four hits. He struck out six batters, though he walked three. For Haynes, who sports a 6.19 ERA in four starts in 2026, the outing was arguably his finest in a rocky start to a critical season. The 23-year-old southpaw has only made 64 professional appearances since finally debuting in 2023, and owns a 4.45 ERA while topping out at 110.2 innings pitched in 2024. The North Carolina native has obvious talents, but could use a standout 2026 to avoid being left adrift. … Although one of the pair of runners he inherited came in, Johan Moreno stood out by recording all four of his outs via strikeout. The outing continued an interesting start to 2026 for the Venezuelan righty, who owns a 1.54 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 11-plus innings to begin the season after beginning 2025 in Lake Elsinore and ending the campaign in San Antonio following a stopover in Fort Wayne. The 23-year-old ran his fastball to the upper-90s while continuing to show a wipeout slider. … Still just 19 years old, Ethan Salas has the luxury of cooled hype to begin his fourth professional season. That’s not to say the catching wunderkind isn’t still on a trajectory for San Diego, but the X- (formerly Twitter-) gazing public hasn’t frothed over Salas’ every move with the same vigor. However, with Saturday’s homer and double, the backstop now owns a career-best .858 OPS through 61 plate appearances to kick off the 2026 season. … Kai Murphy hit a trio of singles at the bottom of the order, and scored a pair of runs. The Arizona State product and son of onetime Padres skipper Pat Murphy has made himself at home in San Antonio since arriving late in the 2024 season, appearing in all three outfield positions.

TinCaps 2Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 1

Key Status: CF Kasen Wells 2-for-4, RBI; RF Jake Cunningham 1-for-4; LHP Jamie Hitt 5 IP, 2 H, 8 K; RHP Clark Candiotti 2 IP, H, K; LHP Braian Salazar 2 IP, H, ER, 2 K, BB

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps only scraped together four hits, but it was enough for the win. Clark Fahrenthold has all the details from the Summit City.

Storm 6, Visalia Rawhide 5

Key Statistics: RHP Lucas Giolito 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K; RHP Nick Falter (S, 1) 2 IP, K; 3B Justin DeCriscio,1-for-4, 2 RBI; RF George Bilecki, 1-for-2, 2B, 3 RBI, BB

Prospect Watch: To paraphrase Northern Irish enigma Van Morrison, Lucas Giolito is a dweller on the threshold as the newly minted Padres signing prepares to join the rotation as soon as possible. As the veteran righty looks to make up for not having a spring training, he got something of a Cactus League experience in his system debut. Giolito looked good, racking up four strikeouts in two-plus innings, while three walks and a pair of hits showed a bit of rust in the tuneup. A bit of a scary moment threatened to derail Giolito’s Padres plans as he took a screaming comebacker in the third inning and was pulled immediately after, but all signs point to no injury for the 31-year-old. … Lake Elsinore snatched victory from the jaws of defeat thanks in part to a six-out save from Nick Falter, a 6-foot-5 undrafted free agent signed last summer. In seven appearances in his first pro campaign, Falter has posted a 1.98 ERA and struck out 14 batters in 13-plus innings while walking only four. … The Storm managed just three hits, but leveraged eight walks to come away the victors. Justin DeCriscio came through with a clutch single to drive in a pair of runs to start the Lake Elsinore comeback. The USD and North Carolina State product is in his second tour of duty with Lake Elsinore, and so far 2026 has been a complete 180 from his campaign after the Padres made him their 10th-round pick last year. The 23-year-old is slashing .333/.397/.561 in 57 at-bats to kick off this season after posting a .190/.292/.286 line in 42 at-bats in 2025. … The other clutch knock for Lake Elsinore was a bases-clearing double off the bat of George Bilecki to give the Storm their only lead of the day. Bilecki, a 12th round pick last year, is hoping to right the ship after tonight’s extra-bagger as he’s posted a .159 batting average and .645 OPS in 44 at-bats thus far in 2026.
