Prospect Watch: Down 5-2, the Chihuahuas broke it open on the road with six runs in the seventh, highlighted by Eguy Rosario‘s three-run home run to left center. El Paso’s bullpen took it from there, with Kevin Kopps earning his first save in Triple-A. … Rosario had a big night in what has been a rough year, collecting five RBI in a game for the second time this year. He’s hit in five straight games with multiple hits in the last three, but still owns just a .775 OPS on the year in 175 plate appearances and 40 games since returning from a leg injury that kept him out of action for almost four months. … Jurickson Profar returned to the Padres organization with a bang, reaching base in four of his five plate appearances. The fan-favorite led off and played left field two days after signing a minor league contract. … Ray-Patrick Didder, 28, continues to be red-hot, reaching base three times, including a double and his 13th stolen base for El Paso. After going just 5-for-40 with a .505 OPS in his first 13 games with El Paso, the Aruba native has pounded out a .403/.543/.736 line since the start of August. … Tirso Ornelas‘s extended his hitting streak to 21 games with a seventh-inning single. He’s pushed his OPS with El Paso up to .822 on the year. … Kopps worked around a pair of two-out singles in a scoreless ninth inning. The 26-year-old righty has given up two earned runs over eight innings in six appearances since joining El Paso. PCL opponents are hitting .242 against the former third-rounder.

Prospect Watch: San Antonio rallied for four runs in the seventh as the Wind Surge put the first four Missions’ batters on without a hit before Jackson Merrill laced a two-run double into right field. With San Antonio leading for the first time in the game, Nathan Martorella followed with a hard ground ball to plate another run. Wichita made it interesting in the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, but Lake Bachar got a game-ending double play for a two-inning save. San Antonio has now won three out of five in the series. … Cole Cummings had a big night with a pair of extra-base hits, including a solo home run to right-center. The 25-year-old corner bat has three homers over his last nine games. … Jairo Iriarte threw 73 pitches in his fifth and longest start in Double-A. The hard-throwing righty allowed multiple runners in each of his first three innings, but limited the damage to just one run on five hits and a walk. He finished his outing with a 1-2-3 fourth inning. In 15.2 innings with the Missions, Iriarte has 27 strikeouts against nine walks. … Merrill collected an assist in his fifth start in left field, tracking down a ball in foul territory and throwing a strike to second to get the runner by several steps. After playing exclusively at shortstop in the ACL, Lake Elsinore, and Fort Wayne, Merrill has also seen action in two games at second and a game at first base.

TinCaps 6, South Bend Cubs 2

Prospect Watch: Austin Krob went six and two-thirds, striking out a career-best 11  before the TinCaps rallied to put three on the board in the seventh inning to win their fourth straight. Fort Wayne is a half game behind West Michigan as they try to make the Midwest League playoffs. … Krob, 23, came one out away from tying his season-high of seven innings as he tossed 105 pitches. His only mistake came in the fourth inning, when he surrendered a two-run home run with two outs. The lefty’s sinker-slider combination has helped him to a 2.79 ERA with 117 strikeouts across 103.1 innings for the Padres’ two Single-A affiliates in his first professional campaign. San Diego selected Krob in the 12th round out of Texas Christian University after a shoulder issue interrupted his draft year. … Fort Wayne got a pair of key hits with two outs in the seventh as Tyler Robertson singled up the middle to drive in two and Samuel Zavala, who had just gotten his first Midwest League hit in his previous at-bat, went the other way to drive in another. Robertson is off to a nice start in Fort Wayne, hitting .308 in his first 10 games with four stolen bases in five attempts to go along with three extra-base hits. Zavala snapped an 0-for-32 stretch with his two hits and will look to finish his taste of High-A on a hot streak. … After Krob’s dominant night, Will Geerdes, Jose Geraldo and Cole Paplham finished off South Bend with two-and-one-third innings of scoreless relief. TinCaps pitchers recorded 14 strikeouts on the night.

Prospect Watch: Nick Vogt‘s double in the eighth inning broke up a tie game to give the Storm their third win in the series and pull within within two games of the division lead. Enmanuel Pinales wasn’t around to get the win, but continued to impress since his promotion from the ACL, making his third straight start of six innings or more. In 32.2 innings with the Storm, Pinales has a 2.20 ERA, as opponents are batting only .214. … Dilion Head had his first multi-hit night in Low-A. Head, the Padres’ first round pick this year, has been with the Storm for seven games after posting a .884 OPS in 14 games and 62 plate appearances in the ACL. … Ruben Galindo, picked up his fifth save while recording a pair of strikeouts. After struggling to a 9.39 ERA in 15.1 innings with the TinCaps, the Colombian righty been very good in relief for the Storm, posting a 0.65 ERA with 47 strikeouts against only 12 walks in 41.1 innings.
