Game 1: Tuesday, Oct 1 - 5:38pm, TV: ESPN - San Diego Cox 3
RHP Smith-Shawver(0-0, 0.00 ERA, 4.1 IP, 4 K, .188 BAA) vs RHP Michael King(13-9, 2.95 ERA, 201 K, .221 BAA)Game 2: Wednesday, Oct 2 - 5:38pm, TV: ESPN2 - San Diego Cox 28
LHP Max Fried(11-10, 3.25 ERA, 166 K, .226 BAA) vs RHP Joe Musgrove(6-5, 3.88 ERA, 101 K, .251 BAA)Game 3: Thursday, Oct 3 - 4:08pm, TV: ESPN - San Diego Cox 3 - if necessary
?HP ???(---, -.-- ERA, --- K, .--- BAA) vs RHP Dylan Cease(14-11, 3.47 ERA, 224 K, .200 BAA)The postseason is finally here. This has higher stakes than winning the NL West. Either the Padres will advance or they are done and the season is over. The great thing about this series is the Padres get to play all 3 games at Petco Park in front of the home crowd. Now, that will make this special. If the Padres win the first two games, they will get an extra day of rest.
It does not look like we will be facing Chris Sale due to back spasms. They will not be facing tough Schwellenbach and starting pitcher Reynaldo López pitched an inning in game 2 of the DH. So, he will probably will not start game 1 of the wild card series.. But probably will face Max Fried, who the Padres beat this season back in May.
King starts game 1 for the Padres. He has 2.15 ERA post ASB and a 1.57 ERA in 4 starts in September.
Musgrove starts game 2. He has 2.55 ERA in 5 starts and a 0.74 ERA in 4 of those 5 starts in September after return from IL that include 3 shutouts starts.
Cease starts game 3 if necessary: He has 2.65 ERA post ASB and 2.97 ERA in 5 starts in September that include 2 shutouts start.
Darvish will be available out of the BP in the series. He has a 3.55 ERA in 5 starts in September since his return from IL that include 1 shutout start. The Mets head to Milwaukee and I hope the Brewers beat them.
GO PADRES!

Quote from Jeremy Hill on September 30, 2024, 7:02 pmIt really does sound like Sale is likely to miss the series. One of the Braves beat writers is saying that the top candidates to start game 1 are Bryce Elder, Ian Anderson and AJ Smith-Shawver. Elder has a 6.52 ERA in the big leagues this year. Anderson hasn't pitched in the majors since 2022 and Smith-Shawver has 4.1 innings of major league experience.

Quote from Randy Manese on September 30, 2024, 9:32 pmFried will probably pitch game #2 and if the series is tied at 1 apiece, then Lopez or Sale will go for #3. I like our chances! GO PADRES!

So what you're saying Jeremy is that any of these 3 can come in and keep us hitless/ runless for 6 or 7 innings?🤣
The offense is too long( legitimately dangerous 1-9) to let less than stellar pitching keep us off the scoreboard. I'll will be up tomorrow at O dark hundred to keep the faith🤙🏽

Quote from Jeremy Hill on October 1, 2024, 10:55 amThe Padres roster. 14 position players and 12 pitchers. Perez left off like I thought he would be. No real surprises.

Nice
I guess Sale won't be making a miraculous comeback if their backs are against the wall.
I'm not celebrating that he's hurt...just pointing out another "break" for the home team.

Quote from ultratvfan on October 1, 2024, 1:51 pmSmith-Shawver starts game 1 for the Braves. He has only pitched one MLB games this season and that was against the Cubs back in May. He had a 4.86 ERA in Triple-A this season. He really doesn't have any MLB experience and no postseason experience.
