Trivia Time: 2024 is the 56th season of Padres Baseball
Quote from brent wolff on September 7, 2024, 5:13 pmTrivia time: The Padres first season of major league baseball was 1969, try answering the following questions without looking up the answers.
- How many winning seasons have the Padres had in total (above .500)? (We will include 2024 as a winning season since one more win would guarantee a winning season 82 wins, not trying to jinx us.)
- Which year was the Padres first winning season?
- Which year did the Padres win the NL West for the first time?
- How many times have the Padres won the NL West?
- What is the Padres all-time playoff series record?
- What is the number of most consecutive winning season in a row for the Padres?
All right long time Padres fans (or should I say sufferers), what do you recall? Correct answers will be posted after Sunday's game, 9/8.
Let's go Pads!

Quote from brent wolff on September 8, 2024, 6:22 pmHere are the correct answers, thanks for playing Alex & Windsor!
- The Padres have had 18 winning seasons throughout their 56 seasons (once they win one more game this season). So the Padres have a winning season percentage of 32% (or roughly 1 out of every 3 seasons). In addition, the Padres had 2 seasons of exactly .500 baseball (81-81) in 1982 & 1983. Neither Alex or Windsor were very close on this one.
- The Padres first winning season was 1978 (their 10th season, going 84-78). (Only off by a year Windsor.)
- The Padres won their first NL Division crown in 1984. (Both Alex & Windsor got this one correct).
- The Padres have won the NL West 5 times: 1984, 1996, 1998, 2005 & 2006. They technically tied for the NL West Division title with the Dog-ers in 2006, but were awarded the division championship since both teams were 88-74, but the Pads were awarded the division crown due to having a 13-5 head-to-head record against the Dog-ers. So, the category to goes to Alex.
- The Padres all-time playoff series record is 6-7 (you were very close Windsor).
- The most consecutive number of winning seasons for the Padres is 4 seasons (2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007). We are currently on a run of 3 consecutive winning seasons (after one more win this year - 2022, 2023 & 2024). Both Alex & Windsor were correct on this one, we are going to give Alex the tiebreaker on this one since he actually listed the correct years also.
Therefore, Alex nudges out Windsor 3-2 overall for this trivia title. Go Padres!

They technically tied for the NL West Division title in 2006, but lost the tie-breaking game 163 in Colorado (when Matt Holliday never touched home plate), so I didn't count that as a division title. So, have to give this category to Windsor, but Alex you are correct if you were to count the 2006 season, but I outlined why I didn't count that year above.

Awesome, thanks!, Just to clarify, in 2006 the Pads did win the division (tied with the Dodgers but won the season series), the tie breaker vs Colorado was 2007 I think :).

Quote from brent wolff on September 9, 2024, 6:14 pmAlex, you are correct, in 2006, the Padres tied for the division championship with the Dog-ers at 88-74. However, the Padres were awarded the Division crown since they went 13-5 against the Dog-ers that season.
Thus, the correct answer for number of NL West division championships the Padres have won is 5 times: 1984, 1996, 1998, 2005 & 2006. Sorry about that Pads fans.
Note: my original post with the correct answers has been edited/corrected above.
