That would be the exact reason to play Asuaje. If he only has value as a 2B you better let him show he can play 2B in the majors if you want to get anything for him when Urias takes over.

Richard
Mitchell
Lamet
Ross
Young
Agree that is how it is heading ... Perdomo seems not to be progressing as the Padres want and has the minor league options. Keeping Ross and Young may turn into some decent prospects with trade deadline moves. Also, a lot of side comments that Young could make the squad as a RP (not the same with Ross).
Side note: Rea is not yet pitching after being shut down early in ST .... clearly DL to start the season. Erlin is reportedly pitching well and could find a bullpen slot as a LHP option for longer stints.

Tough call ... depending on what they see in Spangenberg and the value in sending him to AAA. At least Spangenberg in 2019 has a chance to take over 3B and they may want to hone his bat at the ML level to see what they have.
Both are doing well in ST which makes the call even more difficult. Since Urias does appear to be progressing well enough to merit a 2018 call up in a pinch ... would not rule out trading one of Spangenberg or Asuaje before the end of ST. Likely that becomes Spangenberg ... other teams would probably prefer his for his experience and versatility .... NYY? Milw?

Yanks picked up Neil Walker, so they're out.

Quote from hoffy51 on March 17, 2018, 4:01 amDoes anyone know when the next round of cuts are. It seems we should be getting pretty close.

Considering they still have 45-50 players in ML camp ... has to be soon.
Guessing the next wave of moves is Monday (19th) which is an off day following a split squad game on Sunday and gives Green time to sit down with the cuts and explain what they should focus on to be back (or just give a professional good-by). Then the final wave is probably on Sunday (25th) before they break camp and head to El Paso for a final ST game on Monday (26th).
Other than some "close" decisions on who is kept and who is cut / optioned .... I wonder if a part of the delay is Preller trying to find trade partners for a minor deal or two? Also, making the moves at the last moment does provide a bit of an insurance policy against someone they plan to keep getting injured (or expands the opportunity for a player on another team getting injured --- or just playing poorly --- opening up a trade lane).
Note: looking like Dickerson (candidate for 60 day DL); Rea (has not pitched); and Cordoba (not played due to concussion symptoms from an offseason car collision) are DL options / extended ST.
