One factor is how many open spots on the 40 man roster are there in September. Don't think the will DFA anyone in September just to add a non-roster Sept call-up. The best chance is if the Padres make some trade deadline moves of 40 man roster players for non-roster players ... and that could (should) happen.

IF they opt to add a current non-roster player the odd are on Urias and Kennedy who both need to be protected from the Rule 5 this winter (so would be added anyway) and both have a decent chance of being a factor in early 2019.

Of the current 40 man would expect to see Lopez and Reyes back up and then a large mix to the familiar pitching options that have been up and down and DL during the season. IF they are healthy, may want another (and maybe final) look at Lyles, Hughes, and Mitchell before setting the winter roster. Maton and whomever goes down when Yates returns from the paternity leave may add another 5 arms ... 6 in they add Kennedy. Brewer maybe if the deal some RP. Guessing not the "young" pitching prospects so they can save their arms.
