RHP Matt Waldron(7-9, 4.00 ERA, 121 K, .233 BAA) vs RHP Cal Quantrill(7-8, 4.56 ERA, 92 K, .266 BAA)Saturday, August 17 - 5:10pm
RHP Dylan Cease(11-9, 3.41 ERA, 181 K, .194 BAA) vs LHP Kyle Freeland(3-4, 5.75 ERA, 56 K, .300 BAA)Sunday, August 18 - 12:10pm
RHP Joe Musgrove(3-4, 5.20 ERA, 45 K, .293 BAA) vs RHP Bradley Blalock(0-0, 4.05 ERA, 6.2 IP, 4 K, .231 BAA)The Padres coming off a series sweep of the Pirates, won their 8th straight series, and are 19-4 since the AS break. Now, they head to Colorado for the last time this season to play the final series against the Rockies. Yay! Padres always had a tough time there and split a 4-game series there last April. The Rockies lead the season series 6-4. The Padres will miss facing Gomber this series. Yay! The Padres, along with snakes, are 2 games back of the Dodgers.
The Padres have a much stronger BP since they last played the Rockies adding Hoeing, Adam and Scott via trade and the departure via trade of De Los Santos. Also, The offense is much stronger with the additions of Solano and David Peralta from the minors and Arraez via trade. Also, since then Merrill has come alive. The bottom of the lineup has been stronger than the last two seasons--especially without "can't hit" Grisham.
Waldron is coming off a rough start in Miami, but has allowed only 1 run in each of his two starts against the Rockies, one of which was in Colorado. Cease is coming off a rough outing in Miami, but pitched well in Colorado last April. Musgrove is coming off a solid 5 IP shutout start after coming off the IL and has 1.93 ERA in his last 4 starts. This will be his first start against the Rockies and in Colorado this season.

Quote from Randy Manese on August 15, 2024, 6:38 pmIt's a tall order because the Rockies have a much better record at home and have been our nemesis this season, but if the Padres sweep in Denver they will capture the season series at 7 wins and 6 losses. Missing one our best hitters at Colorado in FTJ, but hopefully there are others who can pick up the slack - they have risen to the occasion extremely well so far this year. Let's at least win the series. Go Padres!

Quote from dusty on August 16, 2024, 8:52 amI think we take 2/3 as well just because it is colorado and anything can happen. I think we win the Cease start as i dont see cease having two rough starts in a row. We win one of the Joe/Waldron starts. Need to get a win tonight to keep momentum going into tomorrow vs freeland and give us hope for a possible two series sweeps in a row

Quote from WindsorUK on August 16, 2024, 5:53 pmWell, that was brutal! Bases loaded, no outs, ....... $55 million doesn't buy you much these days- a strike out and inning ending double play.
Brutal AB's by Machado and Bogaerts. Got 8 innings to make up for it.
Go Pads!

Quote from brent wolff on August 16, 2024, 6:45 pmSnakes lost to the Ray tonight! Yay!
Waldron with his typical rough start in the first 2 innings. We still have time, looks like tonight will be a high scoring game. Need another Padres comeback effort!
