Last season they finished the first half with 50-49 record, 7 games behind the Dodgers, tied with the Dbacks in 2nd place and then went on an amazing run going 43-20 in the second half finishing with 93 wins, second most in franchise history. Could they possibly go on another amazing run? Stay tuned.
The Padres begin the 2nd half with 13 straight games, first 10 on the road, starting with the Nationals. But, they will not be a walk in the park. In the first game at Petco last June they scored 10 runs--5 of which were off of Kolek.

Quote from MrPadre19 on July 18, 2025, 6:50 amWe really need to take advantage of these next two series.
We need to go 5-1......4-2 at bare minimum.
With Cease/Darvish/Pivetta going in Wash a sweep is not out of the question.
We have the 4th easiest schedule the rest of the way.
August looks to be a tough month but September is the opposite.
If we can stay in the 3rd WC spot through the end of August I feel we're a shoe in for the playoffs.
As long as guys stay healthy that is......that's not even considering King coming back strong which would be HUGE for a September run

Quote from fenn68 on July 18, 2025, 5:50 pmWell so far ... Cease looked good vs a decent hitting WASH team
Padres still have offense issues but Bogaerts stretching a single into a double and then the safety squeeze by Diaz (well called by Shildt) later getting that 2nd run was good baseball. (not so much by WASH).

Cease looked good today.

Quote from ultratvfan on July 19, 2025, 9:12 pmPadres lost. At least the Dodgers lost, too. Padres thankfully did not lose ground.
Darvish struggled again and the offense had opportunities.
Also, Tatis blundered on the base path allowing to get caught between third and home thus killing a rally.
Need to take the rubber match tomorrow.

Quote from fenn68 on July 20, 2025, 2:22 amOffense was ineffective against a poor WASH pitching staff and that remains a worry.
Machado had a real bad day ... K with bases loaded, K with runners on 2nd and 3rd, ground out with runner in scoring position. Again the Padres got runners on but could not deliver the big hit.
As suggested earlier, think the Brooks experiment should be over ... PH into a double play and just has not hit (his only reason to be on the club). Preller needs to execute some type of deal soon to upgrade.
On the positive side, Iglesias (for $3MM) has turned into a very good signing. Off the bench he is providing excellent defense across the INF and actually is contributing offensively (.239 BA)... more so than the rest of the bench pieces.
Jury is still out on Darvish ... but 3 ER in 5 innings is not "bad" just not good enough. 3rd start back ... so we will see. Matsui on the other hand continues to struggle.
And then there is the case of the missing Tyler Wade. His last AB was June 29th (3 appearances since as PR ... last July 10th). After a good April has been bad offensively since. Iglesias has replaced him as the 1st in INF sub and Johnson has replaced him as the 1st in OF sub. Preller has to look to upgrade from him and Brooks (both LHH, 30 years old, no track record of any ML success) ASAP.
