The Padres finished a homestand with a 4-1 record and won their 5th straight series. They head to Pittsburgh, with rain in the forecast, to battle the Pirates. They are 10-3 since the all-star break, the best in MLB, and went on a 7-game winning streak on their last road trip.

The Padres are fortunate to miss facing Paul Skenes in this series and quite possibly miss facing him when the Pirates come to town next week. But, the Dodgers will be facing him when they host he Pirates this weekend and he is tougher on the road.

The Padres will have their two best pitchers in this series. Cease, who has been named NL Pitcher of the Month, has been phenomenal. He has allowed 1 run in his last for starts that included 3 shutouts and a no-hitter. King, who had a missed start due to extra rest, has a 1.76 ERA in his last 5 starts and a 1.73 ERA in his last 6 road starts. Glad to seem him back.

The Padres need to continue to play well the rest of the season. It appear they have the least toughest schedule in August compared to the Dodgers and Dbacks.

Padres remaining August Schedule: at Pirates, at Marlins, Pirates, at Rockies Twins, Mets, at Cardinals, at Rays. Both of the Mets and Cardinals swept the Padres earlier this season.
Dodgers remaining August Schedule: Phillies, Pirates, at Brewers, at Cardinals, Mainers, Rays, Orioles, at Dbacks.
Dbacks remaining August Schedule: at Guardians, Phillies, Rockies, at Rays, at Marlins, at Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers.

NL West Standings and games that matter
Dodgers(66-47) at Phillies(66-46) - Phillies are one of the best team in MLB. I hope they sweep the Dodgers.
Padres(61-52) at Pirates(56-55) - 5 games back.
Diamondbacks(61-52) at Guardians(67-45) - 5 games back. Guardians are one of the best team in MLB and hope the beat the Dbacks.
Giants(57-57) at Nationals(51-62) - 9.5 games back. Would not count them out of the wild card just yet. They are hanging in there.
Rockies (41-72) are done.

Current Wild Card Standings and games

The weather in Pittsburgh looks pretty nasty. The game looks unlikely to start on time if it happens at all. Kim reported some tricep soreness and was scratched from the lineup. Shildt said Musgrove is likely to return this weekend.

Last time Cease was scheduled to pitch in bad weather he pitched a no-hitter!  Not expecting this is going to happen again, however, it would be a shame if the game is postponed given the Padres momentum.

Looks like it cleared up enough to start on time after all. Hopefully they can get it in before the rain starts up again.

Well they made it through an inning and a half.

Looks like they're getting ready to start back up. I'll say the same thing I said last time. Why start the game at all if you're only going to be able to get 15 minutes in before going into an hour plus delay? They're pretty good at predicting the weather these days.

Might have spoken too soon. The warning track is still a mess.

Jeremy, do you live in Pittsburgh?
