Monday, June 2 - 3:40pm
RHP Randy Vasquez(5-3, 3.28 ERA, 47 K, .253 BAA) vs RHP Aaron Nola(3-2, 5.72 ERA, 56 K, .284 BAA)

Tuesday, June 3 - 3:40pm
RHP Walker Buehler(3-3, 4.88 ERA, 43 K, .251 BAA) vs LHP Cristopher Sanchez(6-2, 1.47 ERA, 95 K, .240 BAA)

Wednesday, June 4 - 10:05am
RHP Lucas Giolito(2-0, 4.97 ERA, 6 K, .227 BAA) vs RHP Zack Wheeler(4-1, 2.27 ERA, 40 K, .183 BAA)

The Padres are coming off a disappointing series finishing a terrible month of May and enter this series 5 1/2 games back of the Dodgers. They were swept last week by ther Phillies. This time they will face both of their aces Sanchez and Wheeler. Vasquez and Nola as well as Buehler and Sanchez are rematches from last week. Vasquez has a 1.46 ERA on the road to his 4.54 ERA at home. Giolito has not allowed a run in his lon start at home, but has a 8.22 ERA in two starts on the road.

Ty France leads the team in batting with a .286 avg and .851 OPS. Tatis is 2nd in batting with a .266 avg, Andujar is 3rd with a .259 avg and Sheets is 4th with a 245 avg, 2nd with 9 HR and is 2nd with a .807 OPS. On the other side, Manny is the 4th worst hitter on the team with a .174 avg, but leads the club with 10 HR. Merrill isn't much better than manny in batting average. I hope the offense can turn it around in June.

NL West Matchups
Dodgers(38-22) at Diamondbacks(32-27)
Giants(23-36) at Brewers(35-21)
Rockies(22-38) at Angels(23-37)

Johnson or Castellanos ... maybe Song if they want to commit full time Tatis at 2B but that is a long shot (need a back up middle INF).

I guess Castellanos ... not hitting and not proving anything on defense plus will be a FA after the season anyway. Johnson at least give some defense and base running speed ... plus league minimum under control for years.

I could see more regular work for France at 1B / Andujar at DH with Sheets holding down LF and Laureano to RF (maybe rotating with Bowen to see if either will hit). Bowen should improve the defense and base running ... has some power ... but we will have to see if he can make contact at the ML level. Maybe just a spark of a young fresh face?

Tatis at 2B has a .371 AVG and .889 OPS. In RF, he has a .198 avg. and .512 OPS. Why so different?

Because May came and he started to warm up and it happened he was playing 2B almost full time. He hit playing RF in the past years ... so drawing no correlation between hitting and position in his case

Dbacks beat the Dodgers. Padres gain 1/2 game, but only 1/2 game ahead of Dbacks.

Tatis opened his stance back up in the middle of the month. He's hit about .330 since. I also think he's just had better luck lately.

June 2nd: The Padres officially announced their selection of Bowen today. Laureano lands on the 10-day IL due to right hip inflammation, retroactive to May 31st. Pivetta has been moved to the 60-day IL as the corresponding 40-man move.

Marquez going on a rehab to El Paso. So, baring another injury to a SP, a week or so before another roster decision.

And Bowen is in the line up batting 7th.
