The Padres are riding high after sweeping the Pirates for the third straight time, extending their winning streak to 5 and a 1/2 games back of the Dodgers. Now, they head to the Bronx to battle the Yankees. Yankees best pitcher Fried will be the toughest. The Yankees are 7-0 when he starts. The Padres lost 2 of 3 at Petco last seaason, but are better this season.

Grisham is performing better this season. He, along with Judge and Goldschmidt are the big three of the Yankees offense. Judge leads MLB in HR(11) and RBI(33). The key for the Padres to win is to shut them down, get to Fried and lots of Padres offense.

Jackson Merrill is expected to be back for this series. It will be so good to see him back in CF and his bat back in the lineup. But, who gets the hook for the corresponding move? I would think it will Gonzalez.

Top NL West games:
Dodgers(23-11) at Marlins(13-20) - This is lopsided and can't expect any help from the fish. The again, this baseball and anything can happen.
Giants(22-13) at Cubs(21-14) - They are trailing the Padres by 1 game. The Cubs will be tough for them to beat. But, will be a good series.
Dbacks(18-16) host Mets(22-13) - This could go either way. But, will be a good series.
This will be an exciting series.
GO PADRES!

Two Lefties including Fried.

Merrill not in the line up?

Well, apparently he traveled today and just got there recently so they’re gonna hold him out till tomorrow night against the righty

Game 1 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Arraez 1B
3. Machado 3B
4. Bogaerts SS
5. Campusano C
6. Gonzalez LF
7. Diaz C
8. Wade 2B
9. Lockridge CF

Pivetta P

Looks like there's heavy rainfall expected all day in New York. It seems like the game will almost certainly be delayed if not cancelled.

As interesting is that Wade is at 2B instead of Iglesias vs a LHP. Iglesias has been really slumping recently while Wade has been hot.

All the likely candidates for being removed from the roster when Merrill is added are in the line-up: Gonzalez (LF); Campusano (DH); Lockridge (CF); and Wade (2B) ... doubt Iglesias is on the bubble unless injured. For now think Heyward, Sheets, and Maldonado are secure.

Just checked the radar and it looks now like it might clear up for a few hours at least.

So maybe just delay.......

To me keeping Wade is a no brainer…he just does so many things for this team and is a spark plug kind of guy…somebody will claim him and that would be a huge loss for our padres

Smart, especially with a wet outfield. It would be horrible for him to slip on a wet outfield grass and reinjure that hammy.
